Plant light options?

Hey all!

Just need a quick idea for plant lighting. Just added a hibiscus to my enclosure, and it is not happy with my current lights. Just curious what brand or style of lights you guys are using for plant growth. Thanks!

Jungle dawn led bars or jungle dawn spotlights. I have 2 spotlights and a 6500k grow bulb in my uvb light fixture and my plants thrive under this setup. These are a little on the pricey side but they are worth it. Never tried the sansi but I’ve heard great things about them as well if your looking to save a few bucks.

Wow! Pretty much a jungle dawn spotlight for almost half the cost. That’s a steal. Nice find!

Not pretty much, it is a Jungle Dawn spot.

I think Dshulds version was slightly cheaper.

As with so many things these days, its just a re branded Chinese Product. I like the "Biodudes" Thermometer/Hygrometer that he sells for 16 dollars, literally a 4 dollar Chinese model that he had "Biodude" screen printed on to.

It could be a chicken or the egg thing, as that happens both ways in all of our dealings with China. Arcadia could have had it made for them, and designed it and had a Chinese supplier make it. However that same Chinese business, will turn around and sell it for the cost, that Arcadia buys it, to other Chinese companies who have less overhead and are okay with making pennies off the millions of cloned/stolen designs they sell. Or Arcadia could have bought the premade design IDK for sure with this. Biodudes thermometer was already a product before biodude was even a thing however.

I saw one the other day that was great. Some company Kickstarted a "Typewriter Keyboard" old style themed keyboard that looked like an old typewriter. They made 300 something thousand off the Kickstarter, and are selling the keyboards for 189. The same keyboards have been for sale on Alibaba for 2 years before the Kickstarter for 47 dollars each.

On the unboxing video, that a tech YTer I wacth had, the inner box had Brown (almost the color of the box) tape over the old logos with the original Keyboard name and "Cherry MX switches" written on it, when they are not even Cherry Keys..... They didnt even bother to rebox them, just put tape over the old logos and made a slip sleeve with their branding, its actually hilarious.

Oh yeah that does look like the winner. Do these work in just a standard dome fixture or do they need anything special?

Standard Fixture, they are 60 degree beam angle, so keep that in mind. So more than 1 would be advisable, I would use at least 2 and if you can keep them a few inches off the screen top, to allow the light to fill more in, just enough so its not leaving the cage, with cardboard against a wall or something.

Dshulds were pool bulbs so his fans blew out instead of up, if that makes sense. HE said they worked well for basking as well due to that, I haven't tried it, but flipping the fan around is easy.

EDIT: that is Dshulds Pool Bulb, so ya, same applies you can use it as is as basking maybe? If you dont want, flip the fan around.

I rock 2 in each enclosure with an Arcadia T5HO 6% single fixture. I use them for basking as well.

I know what your saying. There’s always an offbrand item that’s an exact replica of an item that sells for 2x as much. I see this a lot with electronics. I feel you do pay that extra cost just because that BRANDNAME slapped on the item like you said it’s crazy.

Well I dont think its always Greedy brand names, though sometimes it is.

In the case of Arcadia, I would like to think they do R&D products, there is no doubt their UVB bulbs are their Spec. So there was some R&D work there, then the packaging, the shipping to vendors, the vendors have to make a profit, Arcadia has to make a profit, they get hit with Import Taxes getting to their warehouses, then again shipping them out, especially as they are not a US company. Being a business owner myself, I can tell you first hand, there is a never ending amount of people with their hands out wanting "Their Cut", especially the US govt, who has you pay fees and get licenses that make zero sense and have zero to do with anything you actually do....

By the time all those hands in the pot get their Money, employees are paid, marketing is paid, ect, the amount of money John makes is likely very very low. Then the Chinese manufacture starts selling the product they made for Arcadia at a way reduced cost, thats because they are making it for cheaper than John paid, have no extra overhead, pay no extra taxes or fees outside of the small amount Ebay/Amazon take, they have their own shell company's in the US to ship to, so they pay 1 import, and pay no vendors. They are just double dipping on the product they made, and hey if they can undercut by 40% and make 3 dollars, who cares thats 3 dollars they didn't have.

It comes down to an ethics issue, you should support Arcadia if you can afford to for what they do for the community. However I am a realest and understand not everyone can, so I will still call out when a spade is a spade :). Even in my own business, when people come in and say "can you get me this" and I say ya, if its cheaper on Amazon and I know it, I will tell them that. If they choose to support me, the local business with Fees cool and I appreciate it, if not I understand. More often then not, they will appreciate the honesty and choose to support me because of it. Sometimes with big ticket items, they simply cant, the price difference is too much often with my distributor pricing + shipping to me, is more than the Amazon price shipped. I insist these people go with Amazon, but they come back for lots of smaller stuff later, so I stay afloat and they leave happy.

Arcadia also does offer a Warranty, something you will not have with some fly by Chinese Amazon seller. You got the time Amazon Protects you, beyond that good luck lol. That doesnt matter to everyone, or to every purchase, but sometimes it does.

Are those bird perches surrounding the cage? So one light fixture would be good for the chameleon and plants?
One is OK but 2 is always better especially if you have live plants that require lots of light. No they are wooden dowels. I use them to create a base/tower/structure whatever you want to call it. Then I attach everything else to the frame. Saves the screen side from punctures/cuts/tears. The only thing mounted to my screens are the green chameleon shooting gallery feeder cups.

Do they they stand alone or need to be attached on the bottom or base of cage?

What would be a suitable diameter size?

I really like Arcadia. Price is high but as mentioned earlier I love supporting the community and the companies that make it better. I also have the attitude that if people buy it they can lower prices to get the rest of the community on board.

Ever heard of supply and demand?
