Plants with bugs... Pesticide?

First of all I just want to say that this plant has already been removed from the chams cage, so please do not yell at me!

I have a plant that appears to have some mold growing on the dirt as well as some weird white things toward the top. They look like tiny crystals, but more round and they are whitish/yellow. Nothing appears to be moving but it freaked me out nonetheless. My question is if it is ok to use a pesticide on this plant and then re-enter it to the chams cage? If so, any recommendations on how to do this? I would like to save this poor Hibiscus...

Thank you!

No pesticiedes

It sounds like a mildew or mold. You can use neems oil it is a fugicied and pesticied organic non toxic. I use it on the plants in one of my cham rooms to control powdery mildow. I have all live plants and the misters come on three times a day so its a perfect enviroment for fungus and mildew.

There may be mold growing on the soil; this is not necessarily bad. It may pass with time, even if you do not treat it at all. Even if you do treat it, it might not go away, or it might re-occur right away. Even if it is a bad mold, the cheapest treatment might cost more than a new plant. I would not do anything except let the pot dry out a bit more between waterings. Wait and see if it retreats.

The weird white things are more worrisome. Can you post a picture?

And yes, depending on what kind of pest you have and pesticide you use, you can return the plant to the cham cage.

Plants are pretty cheap...why not buy a new plant for the chameleon and then try to nurse this one back to health for the house? I mean...it's likely okay to return it to the cage, but for the cost, why take any risk?

I have already purchased a new plant, but I am also concerned for the plants health. I am not just going to let it die if I can help it. I will try letting it dry out but its hard because the mister is automatic. In fact I have only watered the plant 2 times in a month and a half because it gets water from the mister...

I cannot get a pic of the tiny white things, they are too small and I do not have a good enough lens. They are completely covering two leaves. I cut those leaves off of the plant and haven't seen them anywhere else on the plant. Does that sound familiar?
