So ive been looking to put a live plant in the cage but i am having a hard time finding one locally that was grown without pestacides and other chemicals and i really dont want to buy one on line and pay $20 for shipping on a $10 plant...

Anyone know how long it would take for the cheicals to "detox" from a plant if i bought it, planted in organic soil and/or river rocks? Or will the chemicals stay with the plant for ever?

just buy one from home depot or whatever and repot it with new soil, and wash the leaves off with a hose and mild soap.

hiya, yes i normaly buy some noice plants that are suitable for chams for the home store and then i take them out of there pots shake and wash as much of the old soil for the root ball as poss, then i gently wash the leaves witha sponge with a mild water and washing up liquid mix and tyr to be quite vigilant with this bit, and then rinse ,rinse ,rinse and then once thats done i re pot the plant well with organic un fertilized soil like peat and repti bark mixed together and packed round the sides of your plants then i put some larger pebbles over the top to stop my chams eating the soil, this way has been fine for me and my chams and many other cham keepers too but if you want to wait it takes about 6 months for the plants to become rid of the residue toxins within the plant , i have re potted a few so that if the one i have in the viv at the mo dies i can repace it straigh away and also to rest the plant that was in the viv every so oftern by replacing it with one i have waiting,so swapping them around to give the live plants arest from the viv every so oftern. hope this helps.;)

I buy my plants at the nursery down the street. All organic and no pesticides. I just hose down the plant and put it in the terranium. I usually use umbrella trees and hibuscus flower plants.

I buy my plants at Walmart, Home Depot or Lowes. The also carry the organtic potting soil and River Rocks. You can also get the river rocks at the Dollar Store.

I was given a big pothos hanging plant years before I had a chameleon. I just took cuttings from that original plant, stuck them in wet sand. They rooted and have actually grown a heck of a lot. I suspect the cuttings method was easier than repotting, at least for me, and since the original plant was quite old and I never fertalize or use anything on it, ..... And Apparently this plant doesnt need much in the way of nutrients (since all they get is water and perhaps occasional traces of lizard poop (i'm fairly good about cleaning away poop daily, but I'm sure I've missed one in the plant from time to time).
