Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Ambilobe Panther Male around 3 months old almost 4, I've had him for almost a week on Monday
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Very short, maybe a few minutes as he likes to be handled!!
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Feeding crickets, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch, somewhere in the middle. They are gutloading with fresh veggies and fruits every other day. I put the feeders in about 30 min after I put all lights on. I take them out about 2 hours before bed time, put in about 15 or so.
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Have all three dusters, use the vitamins about every three days and the other once a week.
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
He is drinking, I mist at least 4 times a day for two minutes. I also have a dripper going throughout the day.
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
The consistency is normal though the color is somewhat strange, it is black and white but occasionally has a bit of orange/yellow in the middle

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Small screen cage correct for his size
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
UVB and Basking light, lights are on from 7 to 7.
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
About 85 degrees under the basking and goes to 70-75 lower in the cage. Night temps are up 60-62
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Live umbrella and hibiscus plant
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
On a desk, not a lot of traffic and very quiet about all day.

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.
He really is not eating much at all, I know it's normal for him to be a little stressed but I would expect him to start eating soon, the feces matter color also concerns me. He's a good drinker and very sweet, I've feeders in both a cup and free ranging. Earlier in the week he was eating but only very little. He also seems much smaller to me then a cham almost turning 4 months. What do you think I should do? I'm a very concerned parent!! I really love this guy and he's super sweet and likes to be handled...need help!

what kind of uvb light are you using? He does look small for 4 months but sometimes some just grow slower than others. 1/2 inch crickets would be way too big for that little one. I would not feed any bigger than 1/4 inch. If the feeders are too big, he is not going to eat them most likely.

I'm using the Reptisun 5.0 UVB...I mixed a few different size crickets from 1/2 inch to a little bigger, he preferred the bigger ones but he's rarely eating. I'm still giving him the option as his breeder told me he was surprised by how big he'd like his crickets. I'm going to the store tomorrow to get even smaller feeders and see if it makes a difference. Is there anything else I can do?

Do you have access to any waxworms, mealworms, small silkworms? I cannot imagine that little guy eating 1/2 inch crickets or bigger. Get the smaller ones and see if that changes anything. All your set up seems good, temps and all. Just make sure you dust with the plain calcium everyday and use the calcium with d3 and the multivitamin twice a month or so.

Yes I have mealworms, I'll try those. Thank you for all your help. I must seem like a mad woman with all my posts but I can't imagine losing him, he's just too cool. I'll try the smaller crickets, he hasn't eaten the 1/2 inch ones but there were somewhat close to that size, well as big as his head. Thanks again, I'll keep updating.

if you just got him, maybe he notices a difference in the taste of the crickets (a far stretched idea, but who knows) and has he been exposed to any other foods prior to your care for him, if so do you think it is possible he is going on strike?

Actually I just gave him a meal worm and he ate it!!!...I had to put him and the worm in my hand for him to actually concentrate enough to eat it. You bring up a good point, I understand he's nervous and stressed but wouldn't he just not eat? Why would he eat and then stop?? Maybe worms are the idea! I don't think he's ever been exposed to other foods. I think you guys just saved him! Thanks Carol!

I'm going to work on giving him other food besides crickets, maybe he's not liking them specifically. Which brings me to my next question, how small should the meal worms be? My cham has to be difficult like my other animals ;) How the heck do I gut load a meal worm?! lol

Also don't go overboard with the mealworms, they are high in fat so id just give them as a treat if you give them at all. Maybe try baby silkworms hornworms or if u have a roach colony maybe he'd eat the nymphs, you could buy some housefly larvae and see if he likes those http://www.mulberryfarms.com/ hope everything goes well with you little guy

Thank you...I think I'm going to try some silkworms and superworms, alternate between those and crickets and see how it goes. I'll feed him whatever he likes best (which of course is healthy), do the silkworms have about the same nutritional value? Looks like I'll have to be hand feeding for awhile, I much prefer worms to crickets!

I think if you get the 1/4 inch crickets he might eat them. He might be intimidated by the big crickets. Silkworms are the best feeders in comparison to the mealworms and the superworms. Supers are high in fat and silks are not. Supers can be gutloaded though and the meals and the silks cannot. Gutload the supers like the crickets with fresh fruits and vegetables. Just make sure your feeders are size appropriate.

wow,,, its great to see you so worried. I know that little guy went to a good home.My son is still giving me crap for letting that one go.Anyway,Chameleons go threw a ajustment period ever time there moved.it is best to not handle the little guys during this period if possable.By the end of this week im sure he will eating as he was when he was here. Some are secret eaters so count your feeders. Call me so we can go over supplments and there schedulle..im here to help curt

Thank you, he ate a few meal worms this morning. My pet store doesn't have any silk worms so I ordered those online and bought some silk worms...all are size appropriate. I also bought small crickets at 1/4 inch that I'm gutloading. Hopefully he'll start getting his appetite back. He isn't too interested in cup feeding so I've been hand feeding him. Looks like he'll be just fine!

What specific supplements do you use?
What type (spiral, long linear, compact, etc.) UVB bulb do you use?

Oh this is an old thread...

He's on Rep-Cal Calcium no D3 or Phosphorus daily, Rep Cal Herptivite 2x a month, Repti-Vit Calcium with D3 twice a month as well.

He has a 5.0 Repti-Glo tube bulb.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I'm going to get some pics together and hopefully a video clip and send that to you and some of the other amazing members on here :)
