Chameleon specialist is available in a few hours, so I'd like to ask for help here meanwhile.
I have a panther chameleon, now eleven months old, male.
Yesterday, I noticed he was sleeping in the evening, but as it was near the time when the bulb turns off, I didn't think it was that abnormal.
Today morning I found him laying at the bottom of the terrarium, with mixed colors (not green and not yellow as when he is sleeping, just mixed). I think he fell there.
I put him on my hand, he did not wake up, be breathes and moves, but is still sleeping. He does not grab really well.
  • Your Chameleon - panther chameleon, male, 11 m,onths
  • Handling - he does not like to be handled, we do not handle him often
  • Feeding - I feed with crickets, and last week I fed also some dubia roaches. I feed crickets with salad, oat meals, fruit - apples or so
  • Supplements - I got powder from the breeder and I think it is a calcium powder
  • Watering - misting is twice a day, for a minute
  • Fecal Description - I think it is normal, brown part with a white part
  • History - I got it from a breeder of chameleons, he got it from another breeder

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - I'm posting a screenshot of the terrarium,
  • Lighting - 80W UVB. According to the manual it should be changed in january (we installed it in january). The bulb is up from 8AM to 8PM.
  • Temperature - I can measure, wait pls
  • Humidity - I don't have any way to measure humidty. misting is every day though
  • Plants - live plants, multiple, see picture
  • Placement - on the opposite wall of the window
  • Location - europe - czech republic

He just moved a bit and opened his mouth a bit. Should I put him somewhere else?

He looks severely dehydrated, you should be misting at minimum of 3 times a day, but preferably more often, especially with panthers, and for at least 2 minutes each time, but preferably for 5 minutes or more. In the resources tab here, click on food and nutrition and scroll down and there’ll be a gutload list of organic fresh fruits and veggies to feed your feeders. Or buy a quality commercial gutload, like Mazuri, Pangea, Repashy, or Cricket Crack. How many feeders do you give him at a time and what time of day and how often do you feed? He needs either phosphorous free calcium without D3 every feeding, phosphorous free calcium with D3 twice monthly, and a multivitamin without D3 twice monthly (unless using Arcadia) or an all-in-one supplement every feeding. How big is the terrarium? Looks great but needs more branches and vines, mostly horizontal, everywhere, along with more plant cover. Is his light a mercury vapor bulb? Get either a t5HO or T8 linear uvb bulb and fixture at 5.0 or 6% (or more, depending on cage size). Get a basking bulb and make sure the temp at the basking spot is around 85-87*F (don’t know what that is in celsius, sorry). Use a digital temp gun for basking and a digital thermometer/hygrometer combo from the hardware store for ambient temp for humidity. The panther care sheet here has proper humidity levels and other great info. Great job on taking action and going to the vet!

He needs a hospital bin. Get a big plastic tote, put a towel in the bottom, nothing else. Put a heat source above the bin and monitor the temp in the bin CONSTANTLY, it’s very easy to give him heat stress in a bin but he needs one.

I’m sure he is dehydrated, you need to give him water manually. Start with small amounts.

Pain will make chameleons pull in their eyes. Unfortunately that isn't a symptom you can give first aid so your only useful tactic is to try to hydrate them and hope it helps and supports them until they get treatment. Don't get carried away you don't want to over burden them either. Give small amounts (less than 1cc) 2-3 times per day unless they are willing to drink on their own then they can have all they want.

Any time Brody every time I here sunken eyes I think about this video, also seen another video of a snake attacking a Cham and as soon as the Cham was bit his eyes sunk in.(won’t post it here because we love Chams!) btw is he doing better,?what happen?

He is on deaths door, no one on the internet can save your Cham. Medical intervention is required.

Try to keep him warm until you can get to that vet.
HOLD ON my Cham is not curled up sleeping like it usually is tonight and he just started shedding today too idk if that can mean anything but is he ok??? I’m so scared now??? He’s moving around in his cage instead of sleeping and his lights went out 20 mins ago??

This thread is 2 years old.... Your always better off posting a new thread if your having issues rather then posting on a old thread.

Yeah probably lmaooo I just went on google and clicked this thread cause I though is was for chameleon not wanting to sleep. BUT would you know why my chameleon decided to want want to sleep tonight?? Hes climbing on his screen instead. He’s never ever done this before and he started really shedding today I have no idea if that has anything to do with it or not but I’m concerned.
