PLEASE HELP - PHILLY REPTILE STORE CLOSING

The Nosey Be has tongue shooting issues. I’ve given him two dusted grasshoppers by hand and he has to bite them. Poor guy probably didn’t have sufficient UVB and nutrition in his year at the shop. The store was using Zoomed double domes with the coil light bulbs. No outward sign of MBD. I hope he can turn this around. He shot his tongue and was wayyy off. Just goes to show a beautiful store does not make for good husbandry.

The Jackson’s can use his tongue fine. I’ve hand fed him dusted hoppers just to make a friend. He is God’s gift to this world lol. How have I never had a Jackson’s before? NO! NO NO NO ANDREW! Don’t fall for his charms!

Oh no :( I hope he gets better 🤞

Can they recover from tongue shooting issues if it’s a nutritional deficit? Maybe a tongue injury. I’m just speculating it’s nutritional.
My guy had a little issue like this with his younger when I got him. When husbandry was corrected and his calcium was back to normal, he was all good. Once in a while he will miss, but not often. Maybe once every other month.

Hopefully proper lighting now will help him!

Oh yes. Jackson’s are literally the best. I don’t know if I’ll ever have a panther or veiled again but I know I will always have a Jackson’s. They are so darling and special.

You will want to cup feed him... Holding the cup up to him or put in a feeder run that he can shove his head into. He will grab them this way.

Go ahead and try to get some feeders into him with your multivitamin. I am not sure which one you use but either reptivite with D3 or Repashy Calcium plus LoD. Then again in 2 weeks. This can take a bit of time to reverse if it is a matter of supplement/UVB. If injury it would be a very slow process. IF he was able to extend just not target then I would lean towards supplement/uvb issue not injury.

Thank you! I got him an Arcadia 6% uvb fixture from Petsmart and of course the bulb is defective. Not headed to Petco

New fixture is on with a working lightbulb lol. His first linear T5 fixture. I’m so privileged to have him. What’s crazy was watching him grab and hold the grasshopper with his hand and put it in his mouth. It was like him eating a sandwich. He’s clearly adapted to not having a working tongue for a while. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

I have seen it quite a few times in the forum and threads I have helped in.

Sad news on my end. My husband feels like we have enough animals right now and isn't feeling ready to take in another one at this time. We currently have 2 dogs, a hamster, 3 chameleons and a crested gecko so....I get it. I'll continue to help @Andrew1283 find good homes for the chams and anything else I can do to support.
Okay, plan B

CHARGE!

@Andrew1283 You have complete set ups and everything for them all, yes? Are you in a rush to rehome them all? I know that’s a lot of chameleons, but maybe the perfect homes will come along in time. Or maybe you’ll decide that they are already in the perfect home. 💗
