Please Help The Raccoon's.

Jessica - No where did I say anything about driving off the road to hit an animal. I personally would never do that. I do try to avoid hitting anything on the road but again I am not going to endanger my life at all to try to avoid hitting a raccoon or any kind of wildlife. Am I slamming on the brakes for anything or swerving for anything? No unless it is a person I am not.

Montium- Again I do no goout of my way to hit anything with my car. Ok slamming on the brakes can cause the person behind you to hit you. There is reaction time and not to mention it can take a decent amount of time to stop. People follow too close all the time. AGAIN I am not risking my life for the life of any animal that may be crossing the road. I have hit deer. Two years ago I hit 6 in one year, and believe me I was not aiming for a single one of them.

Most people if you pay attention while driving will most likely notice an animal on the side of the road. Again I am not slamming on my brakes or vearing into on coming traffic but I will slow down as long is no one is close behind me and try to avoid hitting the animal.

Clea- What part did you find upsetting? That people eat them?

I have a raccoon that lives in a large tree in my side yard. I think he lives there he spends an awful lot of time in it. Now that my two dogs do not spends so much time outside due to it being cold. He is a cute little fat thing. I make sure I put food out for him. .... Does that make up for not swerving to miss them all the time?

I ran over a raccoon a couple years back and it was horrible, it was the first animal I'd ever even encountered on the road til that point. It was at 5am and this huge raccoon just ran right out and althought I slammed on my breaks there wasn't any distance to stop. I remember that I had a car behind me that had to swerve from hitting me, and luckily we were the only two cars on the road. But I was devastated, I felt so horrible for the poor animal.

Since then I've slammed to a halt for three more animals - an owl, a dog, and another raccoon, and I never regret stopping like that for an animal. Luckily, it's always been at night when there aren't a lot of cars, but I always check mirrors and slam. I have car insurance and a super safe car for a reason, so if I can help it I'm not running over anything else.

I'm not accusing you of swerving off of the road to hit them, and wouldn't expect anyone to endanger themselves or others to avoid hitting any type of animal in the road. I was thinking more along the lines of people who TRY to hit animals. My apologies for the miscommunication.

Since we were on two different levels I can see why you brought eating them into play. I personally think hunting for food is natural and resourceful especially when people can use 100% of the animal
