PLease respond ASAP, store closing in 1 hour!

Okay so i now have a 10 gal tank I can use for breeding insects and I would like to know what I should breed. I am looking for a staple insect that is nutritious and preferably has a lot of moisture. Cheaper would be better at the moment. I already have superworms and I have no luck with crickets. I force feed my female veiled so crickets are very hard to feed unless they are dead. Many suggest silkworms or hornworms but they seem hard to keep. Any suggestions? If I have to get crickets the store is closing at 6 pm eastern US time and that is in 50 minutes. Any suggestions? I have never tried roaches but I don't think I would be able to feed them very easily and I do not want them getting out, I rent . I need something that does not smell much too or my bf would kill me.

Blaptica Dubia roaches can't climb plastic or glass, eat vegetables/chow/anything really, have virtually no odor, breed like bunnies, and are relatively inexpenisve. If you start out with about 50 adult pairs, you should have plenty of roaches in no time.

You may need something bigger than a 10gal aquarium, though - an 18gal plastic Sterilite tub works wonders! (You'll also need a heat pad and water crystals, but that's it!)

DUBIA!!!

though I doubt the pet store carries them.

They do not smell - big boyfriend bonus

They cannot climb - making them nearly impossible to escape

Self Sustaining - Never have to buy more once your colony is well established

Easy to care for - throw them table scraps and keep em warm

Multiply quickly - start with 500 and in one or two months time your colony will be self sustaining.

Okay I guess I can try dubia's, it will give me a use for my heat pad =P. I am just worried about my cat knocking them over. But i see ones with armor and ones with wings... what is the difference between them? I would rather the armored ones, I love Madagascar hissing cockroaches and they kind of look like them. Oh nevermind they are females. Do the males actually fly?

With the adult size Dubia the ones with wings are the males, the ones that look like they have armor are the females. So you'll need both to get them to breed

Okay. i emailed a local man who sells them to ask about his rices but I don't have any money right now I need to find some very very cheap ones or someone who is willing to give me a few male/female pairs. I am willing to wait for my colony to grow.

You can check theroachranch.com he has the cheapest females I have found.! Just buy like thirty females and five males. Free shipping too! :) And you can buy some smaller nymphs if you want to feed right away.

feed it veggies, fruits, and diffrent types of dry gutload like flukers gutload products.

I would stay away from flukers gutloads. Good to keep the crix and high protein consuming feeders alive but not much else in there besides the bare necessities for the feeders.

Aquariums arent good for raising roaches. They like it dark, like absence of light. Also aquariums with silicone edges can enable small nymphs to climb up. They are also heavy and harder to clean than smooth tubs with rounded corners. Heat tape used in conjunction with a thermostat can work. Feed them fruit and vegetables. We have also used Solid Gold Wolf King for Puppies. It is all natural and made with blueberry, bison and salmon.

I was thinking of puting vaseline on the edges where the glue is, that is what my bio teacher uses for his madagascar hissing cockroaches.

Just use a tote bin it has a closable top you can cut out a hole and put screen in. The roaches will do better in it and it is easier to move and heat and clean. No advantage whatsoever to an aquarium for feeder roaches. More work harder to heat.
