Please Think Good Thoughts

Please put out some good thoughts for these girls or say a prayer if that's your kind of thing.

This is the first time in a while a news story has hit close to home.

Yesterday my best friend through elementary school and fellow soccer player was hit by a car going 70-80 miles per hour.
They are two athletes at the highschool I go to. The guy ran a red light, T-boned my friend's truck, and tried to flee the scene of the accident.

The conditions are unknown, but I heard from the girls who had gone to visit that one of the girls has a fractured spine, skull, and jawbone.
The other girl is missing a part of her ear, a fractured skull, and really bad road rash on her arm.

I was up all last night trying to figure out what was going on and seeing if anyone would be going out to see them (the hospital is over 40 miles away)...
I was tired beyond all belief but stayed up until I couldn't stay up any more.. so, sorry if I made any goofy posts last night, stress, sleeplessness and all.

Any who, please think good thoughts, say a little prayer if you want, or whatever you'd like. I love these girls.

That's awful, Syn. :( I wish them a speedy recovery, and I hope you hear some good news soon. Let us know how they are doing.

Thank you. Everyone at my high school keeps talking about finding out who was the idiot driver and not being so nice to him. It's a little funny and lightens up the mood a little.. I really hope the person doesn't get off scot-free or with a slap on the wrist. They t-bone the person going nearly 3 times the speed limit, and then try to drive away.. that just irritates me beyond belief. Anyone know an accident lawyer that can get the information on what jail time these guys will get?

Here's what Wikipedia has to say:

Hit-and-run has severe legal consequences including the suspension or cancellation of one's driver's license, as well as imprisonment. Lifetime revocation of a driver license is possible in certain jurisdictions.

The penalties (and the definition) of hit-and-run vary from state to state.[6] For example, in Virginia, the crime is a felony if the accident causes death, injury, or damage to attended property in excess of a certain dollar amount; otherwise, it is a misdemeanor.[7]

In Texas, the crime is a third degree felony if the accident involves a fatality or serious bodily injury. Accidents causing less serious injuries are punishable by imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for not more than five years or confinement in the county jail for not more than one year and/or a fine not to exceed $5,000. Accidents causing $200 or more in total damages without injuries are punishable by a class B misdemeanor, and accidents causing less than $200 in total damages are a class C misdemeanor.[8]

So the laws are different by state, but it seems like a couple years in jail just for the hit and run is in their future.

Edit - Dur, almost forgot the important part. I'll keep them in my thoughts, hopefully they recover from this as well as possible!

Prayers and healing energy sent their way! You need to stay strong too so you can be there for them, so prayers for you too.

I don't know if it helps but... I know how this goes. :( If you need someone to talk to I'm usually online as long as I'm not at work or in class.

Try to relax, and if you go visit let them know that there are people all over the US (probably even other countries before long) who are thinking about them.

Im sorry syn,
I know exactly how you feel :(
Not to long ago right before my graduation two guys
I've known all through highschool and some middle school were killed
in a drunk driving accident.
It was so heart breaking one of the brothers sisters took his place in graduation
and it was very emotional.
My thoughts and prayers go out to both of their parents and
all other family :(

Hey Syn will keep good thoughts and pray for them:eek:

I pray/hope everything will be alright with the girls. Also, lets just focus on the girls health, rather than the hatred on the one at fault, i know there should be justice for wat the guy did, but its not justice when people become hateful and create their own "vendetta"...

As far as what i believe, i hope there guardian angels heal them with the love of their families and friends (like u)...of course let also hope medical science does their part too in the matter:eek:

This is so horrible. I hate hearing things like this. Two weeks ago my friend that graduated last year was killed in a car accident. My prayers are with her family and you :(

prayers your way some close friends of mine had a daughter was riding with a friend leaving the highschool when someone struck her friends vehicle and and killed her friend was very tough, and i do pray for the best, and hope you get some sleep.... just know justice will be served.

Anyone know an accident lawyer that can get the information on what jail time these guys will get?

Hit and Run Laws in

Arizona

28-661. Accidents involving death or personal injuries; failure to stop; classification; driver license revocation

A. The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to or death of a person shall:

1. Immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident or as close to the accident scene as possible but shall immediately return to the accident scene.

2. Remain at the scene of the accident until the driver has fulfilled the requirements of section 28-663.

B. A driver who is involved in an accident resulting in death or serious physical injury as defined in section 13-105 and who fails to stop or to comply with the requirements of section 28-663 is guilty of a class 4 felony, except that if a driver caused the accident the driver is guilty of a class 3 felony.

C. A driver who is involved in an accident resulting in an injury other than death or serious physical injury as defined in section 13-105 and who fails to stop or to comply with the requirements of section 28-663 is guilty of a class 6 felony.

D. The sentence imposed on a person for a conviction under this section shall run consecutively to any sentence imposed on the person for other convictions on any other charge related to the accident.

E. The department shall revoke the license or permit to drive and any nonresident operating privilege of a person convicted pursuant to subsection B of this section for five years.

F. The department shall revoke the license or permit to drive and any nonresident operating privilege of a person convicted pursuant to subsection C of this section for three years.

13-701. Sentence of imprisonment for felony; presentence report

A. A sentence of imprisonment for a felony shall be a definite term of years and the person sentenced, unless otherwise provided by law, shall be committed to the custody of the state department of corrections.

B. No prisoner may be transferred to the custody of the state department of corrections without a certified copy of the judgment and sentence, signed by the sentencing judge, and a copy of a recent presentence investigation report unless the court has waived preparation of the report.

C. Except as provided in section 13-604 the term of imprisonment for a felony shall be determined as follows for a first offense:

1. For a class 2 felony, five years.

2. For a class 3 felony, three and one-half years.

3. For a class 4 felony, two and one-half years.

4. For a class 5 felony, one and one-half years.

5. For a class 6 felony, one year.

My guess due to the speed and fleeing the scene he'll probably get 3.5 years + additional charges.

The girls will be alright, perhaps not short term but in the long run.

The first girl, Sierra, got a lot of road rash and needed skin grafts up her arm and shoulder. She also got a black eye and had a chunk missing from her ear.
She was the driver and feels like it's her fault everything had happened. All of the damage is not physical, unfortunately. :( However she was not at fault, so.. :\

The second girl, Marissa, unfortunately did not get off as easily. She was in ICU all day and had to get a surgery done on her spine. Luckily, this went well and she will not require a halo.
She had a fractured skull, spine, and jaw bone. She had to get metal and screws all over. Marissa was in ICU all day and only immediate family could go to visit. Crossing my fingers and toes.

We had spent almost 12 hours there and she had over 60 people come in and out, I heard. Her room was never empty except when she was sleeping.
Luckily a joking mood was kept mostly the whole time. It was good to see Sierra laugh and look better than she had last night. The girls will make it, but they will be missing sports among other things.

As far as the accident goes, supposedly the driver was high and only had a permit of some sort. The girls did get an attorney right away.

Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. Everyone at Apache Junction High School is keeping a strong spirit.

Edit: Just gotta keep my chin up, and stay positive! :)

My goodness!

So sorry about that Syn, nowadays its better to teach people to be more responsible, hoping they recover very very soon.

Marissa will be in for one of two surgeries she needs to complete. This one will be for her jaw.
She is really pissed that she has to have her mouth wired shut, it's ironic because she is such a talkative person.. but at the same time she understands that it is for the best, and the only way she will recover.

I still can't believe it will be at least a year for her to fully recover. :(

Sierra is out of the hospital today, so soon though. Unsure of Marissa's conditions. Not too many updates on her.

Four years ago I was invlolved in an accident which left me with a broken hip, femur and tib/fib (all on my left side). Surgery was required. I'm pretty sure my surgeon had to make a quick run to Home Depot. My hip required four screws, my fibula required a steel plate and four screws and my tibia needed a titanium rod from my knee to my ankle, held in place with four screws. My doctors told me I would likely need a cane or walker for the rest of my life. WRONG! Physiotherapy became an obsession. I worked my butt off daily. Within four months I was back to work. No walker, no cane, not even a limp. I am now stronger/faster than ever. Your friend Marissa has some challenges ahead. It may take many months, and she will likely have to work hard at her recovery but she can overcome this with a little determination. Wish her luck!
