i have nothing against them.. but... POISON dart frog cough cough.. other than the poison arrow frog (most poisonous in the world) poison dart frogs are very poisonous and can kill a human in about an hour...
but very apealing to the eye

i have some darts and those look fine, but the better question is whats hte price?

you can typically find froglets for much cheaper (and healthier) direct from breeders at dendroboard

EDIT: FYI, they lose their poison in captivity. It has something to do with their diet (i don't know exacts)

Yes, they lose their poison in captivity, because they eat flightless fruit flies, not their native bugs in the South American jungles. They are pretty easy to keep - just like a cham, keep the humidity high, food fresh, and temperatures correct and you are all set. Plus, you can plant directly into the tank, making that aspect a bit easier (and more eye appealing), than having removable plants in pots in a cham's cage. My husband is also on the dendroboard, and he found out everything he needed to know to keep our 3 little ones happy. Just remember, unlike zoos, you'll only keep 1 species per tank, unless you are talking about a massive cage. Good luck if you decide to go for it!

Michelle

Edit - we bought our 3 from a private breeder in St. Petersburg area, for $40 each, and he is extremely reputable on the dendraboards - they are bumblebee leucs, forget their latin name :)

Poison arrow and dart frogs are just common names for the same type of frogs. I believe they eat ants and other toxic insects in the wild and transport toxins from their diet to their skin. In captivity they are lacking these feeders and instead eat harmless fruit flies, isopods, etc.

Because they are toxic, they don't need cryptic coloration. So they can afford to get away with some very bright colors.

HAHAHAHAHA, what the hell??im currently soaking driftwood (to remove the natural tanins), and preparing moss patches, star moss, airplants and small ferns im going to use a exo-terra 12x12x18, and a coralife 11" t5 set up, also got my hydroballs, mesh, rockwool sheet, carbon filter sheet..going to make a small creek in my unit (i will NOT show pics untill it has fully over grown and looks like a slice taken from the forest!!! haha):D

and dendro is the place (im lucky, met a guy that lives close by, he has tadpoles growing even))!!:D

I have pdf's,i adore them, beautiful little critters:)I was tempted at a local reptile exo.Look after their environment and they pretty much look after themselves and,of course a constant supply of fruit-fly's:)

How do we feel about dart frogs as a feeder?

They aren't poisonous in captivity... so? Eh?

Just making this thread chameleons related :)

i would never do it as they arent truley "gutloaded" with nutrients that are very helpful to chams..also 50 bucks a feeder is a lil steep

and, how could you feed off such a cute froggy!!??:)

No poison in captivity. I have 4 different species right now. check out dendroboard.com and Dartfrogz.com lots of info.

Oo-- a good reason to keep them IS to have fruit flies always in supply... you know. for when your baby chams hatch. or your feeder mantids :)

I heard that in captivity they lose their poison because they have a different diet. From what i can tell, they eat a bug in the wild that eats a toxic plant, then they excrete the toxins through their skin making them poisonous.

By the way, i am really gutted right now, i want some frogs now but i know the wife is going to say no! damn you!!!!!!! :D:p
