Poking a hole in a super worm?

I read on a form that you're supposed to poke a hole in a superwoman is this true? how many superworms should have chameleon have in like a week? my chameleon is about 5 month old he really likes the super worms but he is uploadfromtaptalk1403904172988.jpg not a big fan of mill worms I can't find a good place to order any other kind of worm... What other things besides crickets and super worms could I be feeding him[emoji3] thanks in advance!

Silkworms, hornworms, dubia roaches. In my opinion I totally avoid supers and do mealworms at most 15% of the diet, but I try to avoid feeding those too. They both have a very high chitin ratio and are hard to digest. But crickets are my main feeder. Don't forget to gutload.

I won't feed mealworms but do feed supers maybe two to three times a week. 2 or so each time. I don't poke holes and he digest them fine but he loves supers and they can get addicting. That's why I only feed them s couple times a week. If mixed with soft body worms like silks and horns you should be just fine. Mealworms have very little nutritional value and even harder to digest then supers.

Supers are better than meal worms but like previously stated neither should be a staple of the diet. Supers make up approx 15% of my chams diets. I try and stick with crickets, roaches, silks and horns

I am curious...what would be the purpose of poking the hole in a super worm??? Never heard of that one. Have heard of cutting off their heads so they don't chew a hole in your chameleon's stomach which by the way is pure myth.

Cutting off heads or poking holes into meal worms or superworms is NOT necessary, they will NOT chew through the stomach or kill your chameleon

:)

Also, you might want to try getting a dubia colony as well as try some other foods. Crickets are even better than feeding meal and super worms all the time. Try to have crickets, meal worms, super worms, dubia roaches, horn worms, silk worms, and all kinds of foods to keep him happy. Super worms are addictive

I am gut loading my crickets just don't want him to get sick of them. I have only been giving him a super worm maybe 2 times a week so a total of 4. I buy all my food from petco..I'm not a big fan of petco but they are the closet store to me. I'm not buying roaches. They freak me out! I'm so scared they will escape!

Don't be afraid, they are cool bugs.. They don't survive even in Texas. Ones that get loose die. I like them a lot but not phobic about bugs

I'm trying my hardest to get over my fear of them but it's going to take tome especially if it's for my cham cause I love him so much!

Freeked out!!!

Just started feeding my panther some of these this week while hand feeding one bit me HARD  I stared to look up how many to feed him/how often then Came across people saying their animals had been hurt by them (having already had a nasty cricket bite him I was concerned) so this morning I showed him the worm wiggling, got his interest then cut its head off. There was no need to of shown him before it just kept wiggling  and not just a little like loads!! For ages!! The head ran off :( GROSSS!!!!

The head ran off... oh my gods... I think I would actually just die. I fed my Rankins a sun beetle larvae and he ate the butt then left the head to wiggle about. Why are our beautiful lizards torturing us so much??

yes RAN away!!!

Yep I used my pen knife to cut about 1cm off the head end and their legs are there too and it walked away leaving the body wiggling. I was so shocked I almost didn't notice Diesel trying to shoot at the head, but stoped him just in time lol. I never kill anything never have! I love all animals and only did because I love my little guy so much, but I sure felt guilty and sick :( he hasn't had one since...

There is no reason to cut the heads off.

Your chams have tough skin and 99% of the timem wont be hurt by a superworm.

the head cant pinch them like it can aperson because their flesh is much harder than ours.

its just a waste of time.

I wish people would get out of the 90's :)

Look there has not been one documented case of a worm damaging any reptiles digestive track. Go ahead, we have docs with 30-40 years of records, find just one.

Also the whole "hard to digest because of thick chitin shell". Again you can find at least 3 papers published proving meal worms and super worms have less chitin than a house cricket.

Read up on what family run reptile farms(500 babies on site or more, so like 20 clutches) use for food in the 1st world.
