Poll: how much do your adults eat/day?

I have a Panther who's a little over a year, had a lot of parasites and just barely eating on his own now.

He only eats one, max 2 superworms ever other day.

What's "normal" for an adult just over a year old in everyone's experience?

My adult male veiled only eats 1 large roach or two, once a week. I've found that talking to other keepers here with adult males, that you need to get used to their reduced appetite as an adult.

It's even more difficult for you as yours is recovering from parasites and treatment. I'd keep a close eye for the next couple months, but don't fret that he's not gobbling down 15 crix a day like he did when he was a kid.

I only offer Luie food every other day. He will usually eat 6 (1/2 inch) crickets and either a couple of silk worms or super worms on the days that he's offered food. He's now 15 months old.

ummmm - maybe I'm feeding too much LOL I feed my female either 3-4 silkworms or 6-10 medium dubia nymphs each day, along with a few phoenix worms.......she eats everythingthough...... should I reduce her food?

Are chameleons like fish: they will eat until there is food available, so over feeding your pet fish is not a good idea?

Over feeding females can be very bad - Sassy, consult Brad Ramsey's blog an feeding females, or do some searches here on the forum.

Mesnik - It's pretty hard to overfeed a juvi chameleon. They're growing fast. But once they become an adult they come to a grinding halt on their appetite.

Once again - big difference between feeding a male and a female.

I see what you mean. Thanks for the info. My male veiled is starting to show slow down in appetite...

I will cut back. Maybe I will install a buzzer that he can push to let me know when he is hungry!! HE!HE!

I am still searching...I'm finding a lot of Veiled female info....but not alot about panthers.....I think the only thing I read was that if she eats too much she might lay infertile clutches....is this what you are trying to point at? Thanks :)

Love the buzzer idea. How about a menu they could scratch off so we don't waste money on food they're suddenly bored of?

Hey Sassy that's why I didn't say anything in particular. I know female veileds can become eggbound if they're fed too much (I think), but I don't know about female panthers.

I don't enough to really comment. Might want to throw the question out to someone with more experience. sorry.

Hi Sassy,

I feed adult female and male panthers 3 times a week. Some people might think it's a little but after talking to Jim and Mari from amazing blue that's what they do. I feed about 10 gutloaded crickets to the females and males. Some people like to feed every other day which is fine also but I would give them around 8 crickets then. You could swich of between supers, crickets, silkies etc. Mari told me less problems arise with less food...and I have noticed the same myself. Of cours the schedule is different for gravid females and growing juvies and babies.

Thanks Royden, hopefully I can find out :) I just thought that she would just eat when she's hungry LOL

Well that makes sense......I guess I spoil my "kids" too much and think that they know when to stop LOL I need to start putting my foot down LOL Calypso just does this staring thing at me until I give her food.....guess I"m a sucker, I do want her to be healthy though, so I really appreicate the info :)

Sassy Its very hard to say no. I know. My female panther will eat whatever and however much I give her. She is 1 1/2 years and gets around 4 crix a day or equivalent to. This has kept her clutch size down to a rounded figure of 22. That is a pretty good clutch. Not to small not to big. I think I read 24 eggs should be the norm. She has laid 4 times for me with no problems yet. Knock on wood. If you dont have a scale keep an eye on the pads on top of her head. A nice rounded bulge is good. Not to bulgey and not sunk. It def takes a little time figuring out how much will keep her good and healthy right in the middle.
