Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon - Franklin is a 4 year old veiled chameleon. I got him new years eve
Handling - Only when he was placed in his new enclosure
Feeding - Alternate between crickets and superworms. Crickets get calcium enriched quencher cubes, flukers dry cricket food, and some greens depending on whats in the fridge (mostly romaine). Supwerworms get bran, carrots, apples, and also romaine. He gets fed 4x a week, usually 4-6 large crickets, or 5 medium superworms. He eats from my hand or a cup.
Supplements - Before i had gotten him, he was given ReptoCal by tetrafauna, calcium with D3 every feeding for probably 3 of his years. (I'm surprised he doesn't have mbd, but I'm not sure how often they fed him either).I switched him to a normal schedule of stickytongue farms supplements. 2x a month calcium with D3, 2x a month vitamin, plain calcium every feeding.
Watering - I hand mist him about 4-5 times a day. I mist until everything is wet, and then some. I have never seen him drink. The cage dries out between mistings.
Fecal Description - Pictures below. Have not had him tested yet.
History - He was a college student pet his first year, then the student was going to throw him out in the Pennsylvania wilderness because he did not want him anymore, so his new owner (he was friends with this guy) took him in. This guy's mom has cared for him since.

Cage Info:

Cage Type - 2x2x4 wood with 1" screen. Plant fabric is on 2 sides and part of the back to prevent water spray, and keep humidity.
Lighting -He came with a brand new compact 10.0 repti-sun. I usually don't use compacts, but it was new, and they have used them with him the entire time they have had him. He also has a 60 watt house bulb in a dome for heat. Lights come on at 9 a.m. and off at 9p.m.
Temperature - Current temps as of right now are: basking spot is at 84, mid is 79, bottom is 75. The room is kept between 75 and 80 degrees. The temp increases a little bit during the day. The lowest overnight temp he ever went through was during the arctic freeze, and it was 65. normal night time temps are 70. Measured with a digital thermometer.
Humidity - Right now they are 50%, but increase after I mist.
Plants - He has a Pothos, and did have a large Shefflura tree, but its in rehab right now (I watered it too much -.-) so now there is just a small one. All the plants have been repotted in organic soil
Placement - The cage sits directly on the floor because it is a slanted ceiling. It is right in front of a window, he likes to bask in the morning sun, i know there's no uvb, but he still likes it.
Location - Altoona Pennsylvania

The problem: I had posted a thread about Franklin's rediculously large urate (https://www.chameleonforums.com/i-have-never-seen-before-poop-question-123860/), which was identified as crystalized urate, but i woke up this morning to find this! Of course he did it in his feeder cup -.- That is a full sized plastic cup...i have never seen poop this large. It seems rather healthy other than the mere size and the jelly like stuff in the top right. Could he have possibly been constipated? What is that jelly like stuff? It looks like fat, does that mean his diet is too fatty? I woke up my boyfriend and showed it to him, then put it in our fridge in case i can get someone to do a fecal test in the next couple of days :3 I won't be getting my own fecal kit for another month or so. Also, all of his urates except for this one, and the crystalized one have been fairly white so far.

Not fat, mucous. It looks like it's not well digested bug parts and if it's really coarse and irritates the intestines as it passes through so mucous builds up. Make sure the basking temperatures are good and he's being fed early in the day to be able to bask and digest properly. If the next one looks like that too you should have a fecal done to make sure there aren't any parasites interfering with digestion.

I'll increase the basking spot asap and try feeding softer bugs. Could the fact that his diet has a lot of superworms and crickets in it play a part? I usually feed him around 11:00 a.m. but if food sits in his feeder cup, i don't know when he eats it.

You need a larger variety of diet. No one bug should comprise more than 20-30% of your animals total diet.

Try horn horms, butter worms and silk worms. All soft bugs with lots of moisture.

I'm aware of this. BUT

If i could get bugs like that shipped alive without costing 2 or 3 x the normal cost in pennsylvania winter weather, i would. but until then, i gutload whatever feeders i can get my hands on.

I'm not new to chameleons in the very least.

No local shops carry, or can order for you these worms? I would ask your best reptile shop to bring something in. Im sure they would accommodate.

Or consider breeding your own bugs.

I live in Winnipeg and the winters are the most brutal here than pretty much anywhere in North America.
My reptile shops ship in horns and butters year round and were not a big reptile city.
Im looking into breeding my own silks, im pretty confident I can do it.

Sadly, no. Petco is the only shop around, and i work there lol. They don't have any of the good bugs, and don't special order them :( I would breed my own, but my last escepade in trying to breed silkworms ended in failure, and now its too cold to order anything. I rely on gutloading in the winter and hotter summer months, which can be just as good.

Shops around here do not stock or order any of those worms either. I've tried. Supers can be harder to digest due to their harder chitin shells so try to use those more as a snack and see if that helps.

I see your quarrel. Your doing the best you can. Maybe have another attempt at breeding, maybe horns are easier? Does he like fruit? I have seen some chams eating papaya by hand.

Experiment, you have an individually specific problem which will need an individually specific solution. Only you will know what will make your cham happy and healthy:)

Horns are okay every now and then to keep the chameleon hydrated, but theyre not worth breeding because theres not much nutrient content to them. I havent tried fruits and veggies yet, but am going to, i've only had him 2 weeks.

that's interesting about horns, I have heard they are pretty nutritious. although being very high in water. I suppose not.

Butters maybe then?
