Possible respiratory issue

We may be purchasing a male ambliobe panther chameleon that possibly has a respiratory infection. We are planning to take it to the vet but is there anything we can do before we take him?

increase the temps in his cage slightly, this is not a fix if its in more of a advance stage. But, it will up dry up the mucus in the body

I have never read anything about that, but I would think you would want to lower the humidity a tad instead of raising it. (I am not 100% on this so I could be wrong.) Now, for the future if you are having humidity problems at warm humidifier would be better than a cool mist. I would still take him to the vet if you can, just have the tests done to determine what kind of infection he has, but until you can get him to the the vet raise his temps to help with the mucus.

If he is sick, don't buy him. There are too many new keepers here that get sick chams that don't make it. If he has a URI, there is a good chance that he had other issues due to poor care.

I'm not saying anyone with a sick cham is a bad keeper, please don't read it that way. Just trying to save you some heartache and some money.

We appreciate that. Me and my finance have rescued some other herps. And this one would be the sire to the female we purchased.

URI can move very very quickly and when there is stress involved like moving homes it can become 10 times worse overnight. I would recommend setting up a vet visit prior to getting him so you can be sure you can get him in ASAP as a URI will not go away without meds.

As for temps and humidity I wouldn't adjust them to any extremes as that will just add to his stress. If he has mucus in his mouth I would use a Q tip and remove all of it as that will cause him issues with breathing.

Best of luck with him, please keep us posted on how he is doing once you get him.

I am not sure if we are going to get him. We really want to. The guy is selling him and enclosure for $350 but my concern is how far is the RI and can it be turned around.

This is him. A stunning ambilobe blue bar (correct me if wrong)
