hey guys im new to chams but not reptiles and maybe im worried about nothing but lately Rhonso(cham) has been acting strange. the main thing i'm noticing is that he will cling to a branch wit his front legs and swing his back legs around, like searching for a branch when there is none around. he does this for ten minutes at a time. he also sits on a thin branch and hangs one or two legs off while clinging with the rest. he alternates legs, so i dont think it's a particular leg injury. he also has been moving slowly. not twitching or shaking, but generally being very wierd about climbing. he almost fell today because he refused to grip the branch he was clinging to. he was rotating his back legs in wierd angles to grip a branch that wasn't there. he has been doing this for about three days. he looks directly at open air and expects to find something to cling to.
also, he doesn't eat much. i know he's eating because i put crickets in the enclosure and they disappear, and sometimes i see cricket smear on the side of the enclosure, but i don't often see him eating them. sometimes ill put 10 crickets in and they will still be there in two or three days.
he usually stays a bright lime green and seems very alert with clear eyes, not sunken in. his grip has not changed, still a pretty strong grip.
here's my specifics:
Cage Type -3x3x1 open air terrarium. wooden frame with wire mesh
Lighting - reptiglo 10 18" 15w bulb and zoomed infrared heat lamp. both lights 12 hrs on/off
Temperature - not sure exact temperatures. it's always above 70 in the room he is in because of a room heater. it is much hotter near his basking lamp, which he often sits under. he spends half his time there, but i dont think it is too hot because he doesn't pant and he climbs lower when he's done
* Humidity - no way of measuring humidity yet. i plan on getting something, but for now the entire enclosure gets sprayed with room temp water at least 3 times a day, up to 6 times a day
* Plants - one ficus and some fake vines
* Location - the top of the cage is about 5 ft from the floor, near a window which stays closed with blinds
Chameleon Info:
* Your Chameleon - male veiled, the pet store said 5-7 months. ive had this particular cham for less than a month.
* Handling - handling for 10 minutes or less every 3-5 days
* Feeding - i offer about 10 large crickets every three days, with calcium and d3 powder sprinkled on every other or third feeding. he doesn't always eat immediately, but it takes a few days for him to eat.
* Supplements - reptivite
* Watering - he likes to drink from the dropper and by licking the branches. i usually mist him in the morning until i see him drinking and also in the evening.
* Fecal Description - was dark color, now is a yellow/orange
* History - no idea. pet store in austin Zoo Keeper's Pet Store if anyone knows this place...
any help is appreciated guys.
thanks in advance!
