Probably a stupid question about hanging items

I just got some new (fake) leafy vines to put in my cham's enclosure, and I just can't figure out how to mount them. With the thicker "bend a branch" style vines, I know I've seen on the forums that most people just stick them on with thumbtacks which works great.

I just picked up some "Reptavines" though, and they are too small for thumbtacks! The tack goes straight through them, and I definitely want to avoid hurting my cham by mounting them that way, but he loves hiding under the leaves so I want to also make sure he has nice places to hide (thus I really want these vines up).

Any thoughts? I was thinking maybe florist wire our something similair would work, but I don't want to go out and buy wire only to find out that it's too thick to stick through the mesh of the cage.

Thanks in advance everyone!

I figured as much, thanks a ton though!
That'll probably hold the hose for the habba mist a lot better than the duct tape that is currently holding it up too.

You can still do the thumb tack trick if you want. Just grab an eraser and cut it into pieces and put them over the pointy part of the tack. I've done this for a while and they haven't fallen off.

I personally like the fishing line since it is clear and is practically invisible. I also use fishing line to hang pothos pots in cages and it makes them look like they are floating in mid air.

Ah the eraser trick would have worked great! I had folded up some paper, and taped it around the exposed section of thumb tack, but that just didn't seem great. A rubber eraser would make a lot more sense haha.

I got some 30 gauge silver florist wire, and it seems to be working pretty great. Midna is already in love with the vines, and it doesn't show but so much so no complaints here. Thanks again everyone!

I hope these new vines make up for me taking away his ficus tree.

Was the ficus tree real? It always helps to have live plants in there to keep the humidity levels in check. Those vines are fine for hiding, but just make sure your humidity is still good. Otherwise, looks great!

You can also use the small electrical wire ties, they work fantastic and do not hurt the screen. I use the tiny black ones!

Yeah I have a black thumb, and I killed both my ficus trees within about a week. I think one of them probably died as soon as I looked at it... I've given up on the live plants, and moved over to just using some super heavy mistings a few times a day. My area is pretty humid as it is luckily, so it hasn't really been an issue.

k, sounds like you know what your doing. Should be fine. :p

Try a pothos or dwarf umbrella plant. Ficus can be kind of tempermental and drop their leaves when you just look at them the wrong way. Pothos are much easier to keep alive, as are umbrella plants, plus pothos grow really fast and are viney so you can use some wire/fishing line to use their vines just like the fake ones you buy.

Ah that's a good thought. I think I'm just going to stick with this for the time being, but when I upgrade to the bigger enclosure (he's only a few months old right now) I'll for sure look into getting a Pothos. Ideally I'd like a living plant, but that ficus was a nightmare and now I'm slightly terrified of plants. Figured I'd better give myself some time to recover.

Haha. Yeah, thats what happened to my first ficus' when I had my first chameleon. They just kept dying and dying and I didn't know what kind of plants I could use except for ficus. Eventually I learned that too much or too little water, moving them, too much light, not enough light, and more will make them drop their leaves (and once they have dropped them, I have a very hard time getting them to not die.) Pothos and umbrella plants have been soooooo much easier for me. I've only killed pothos because I stopped/forgot to water (for more than a month) them and one or twice I left them out in the sun and the sunlight ended up killing them.

Well that's encouraging for sure!
