Hi I saw this sight and thought I should ask. Two things do female chams lay eggs even without a male? And do they have lots of colors like males? Thanks!

Yes they lay eggs, not fertile of course. Females show some colors yes .

Receptive/gravid females are beautiful! Some still have nice colors even when not receptive/gravid.

Not all species produce eggs when not mated but some do. Husbandry can slow down reproduction and even stop it in some species.

Female chams generally do not show as vibrant colors as the males, depending on species. Females will lay infertile eggs even if not bred (unless you have a livebearer like a Jackson's)

Most lay eggs some give live birth like the Rudis and Jackson’s there are a few more that give birth. Veils and panthers lay eggs... and non live birthing chameleons do lay eggs without fertilization from a male but if you have one that lay eggs it is impairitive to provide a lay box and I can’t stress that enough! If no lay box or plant with organic soil is provided the female will eventually die due to impaction of the eggs and not to mention the stress of it. Females of most chameleons are not as colorful....Hope that helps!

What is the climate where you live like that’s another big thing to think about as well because panthers and veils like it hotter than the
jacksons due to Jackson’s living in the mountains in Kenya Africa or the smaller Jackson’s mt. Meru Jackson’s both need a temperature drop at nighttime. Is this your first chameleon?

Don't be put off with the whole egg process! I had a female as my first chameleon. As long as you do plenty of research first you'll be fine! The girls are wonderful, beautiful chams. I love my female Panther, Pixie!

carpet chameleon females are more vibrant then males. It really all depends on the species. Egg laying really isn't that scary as long as a sufficient egg laying bin is setup.
