Pros and Cons of a female or male chameleon

Sadly, pet stores don't always know what they are doing when it comes to chameleons - they are notorious for giving the wrong advice! You've already seen that she had a bubbler and zero humidity, so you don't know if she has been given the correct (if any) supplements. Were her eyes sunken at all? This is a sign of dehydration along with yellow/orange urates.

I agree with Miss Lily. I regularly visit the pet stores in my area and Petco (the worst offender) never has their veileds set up right.

Before I got my first cham, I was talking to one of their sales people and she actually tried to talk me out of getting a chameleon. She said they were too hard to take care of.

Thankfully, I spoke to another person there who turned me on to this Forum.

Miss Lily, Amy is just about the prettiest vieled I've seen!

I'm thinking about getting my 3 year old son one and don't know what to get a male or female and would like one with alot of colors

A chameleon of either sex is not a good pet for a 3 year old at all. They're not something you can hold cuddle and play with which is exactly what a 3 year old would want to do. Have you thought of a bunny or cat or something that your child will actually be able to interact with? NOT a good idea IMO.

Look females are great, and can be quite colorful just look at a female carpet, or a gravid female Veiled. And yes females need homes too, but this guy is asking which is best so here is my 2 cents.

Unless you are planning to breed them, or are just wanting a pair I would get a male.

Male pros.

Don't lay eggs.

The males are usually more colorful than females.

Tend to live two to three times longer than females.

Usually have less Vet visits do to no complications with being egg bound.

Their basic care tends to be easer than the females.

Female pros

They usually have a better disposition than males.

It's nice if you are going to have two to have a pair.

This has been my experience I have had over the last 20 years, that being said females can be very rewording to keep as well. :)

Please don't buy a three year old a chameleon as a pet unless it is really for you, and you are willing to take care of it's needs and responsibilities. You could always let them say it's theirs. But if you yourself are not interested, and it is solely a novelty for your child I don't feel it would end well.
