pygmy playing dead

so i had a real scare the other day with my new pygmy cham (bearded) i was doing some tinkering with her cage and had her sitting in a plant on my table next to my PC when i got done she looked like she was loving the sun coming through the window and with the a/c the temp was where it needed to be so i figured let her hang out there while i returned some emails..all of a sudden i was bent down to take some paper out of the printer when i heard alittle thud..i looked on the desktop and there she was..she fell from the top of the houseplant (not to high but high enough for me to think the worse) and she was laying like a heap of dead cham..i just stared in disbelieve like "holy s@!#!!! i just killed her" when after a few moments i saw her eyes open up and her sensing no movement or threat got up and started to explore..i was so relieved and scared still though LOL...i looked her over and she is moving fine adn all in tact..but to say i was scared was a bit of understatment..i have read about them doing this before but to witnesss it was unreal..just thought i share a tidbit frm the soap opera i call my life LOL

Is it possible that the plant moved/jiggled? I know that bumping the cage will make them fall to the ground (floor of the cage, actually) and play dead sometimes.

it might have.i may have bumped the desk a tad when moving.she really looked dead.it was creepy and very impressive at the same time.

The best part is when they open an eye to check and see if the danger is still present.
Tricky little buggers!

I haven't seen them playing dead, but my male buzzed at me once when I had to take him out to clean the cage.

did yours change colors as well?

some of my first trio of these almost got buried due to this tactic. one went white, when went black. i dont remember which was which, but they were 1.1

that buzzing is amazing

darkend in color a tad but nothing to strange..i too have felt the buzzing.its one thing to read about it but its another to expereince it first hand..when ever i pick her up she buzzes, unless i reach under her and let her slowly make the crawl to my finger or hand..she shows less stress when i do it that way too..she is usually a brown color with a stripe down the center..one time i had her sitting on my hand while i was on the couch and when she crawled onto my shirt which was black with white lettering she changed into that color..i have seen her do that with the original cork backing on the cage as well..since its no longer there i have never seen her that color again
