Q about sunlight and cage...

Is it OK if i move my chameleon inside his cage to my balcony outside for him to get some sunlight? its like 85F outside and he turns into a dark color, i would leave him for a couple of hours at the most... what do you think, would he get stressed if i keep on moving him inside his cage??? and also, what do you think is better, a place where direct sun rays hit the cage or a place where theres no direct sunrays, like a clear shade...

When I had my xanth in her small cage, I would pick it up and move it to the balchony every morning. It will be fine, the trade off(real-sun) is so epic good for them, it should counter-act any "stress". IMO
You just have to make sure they have shade available, and mist them lots while they are out their;)

make sure its been a little while since you last dusted with d3. id say at least a week. this can be very detrimental i made my first chameleon ever very sick by doing this, he never fully recuperated.

yes that would be fine. Direct sun is fine, as long as there is shade also. Just make sure he has shade somewhere in the cage to get out of the sun. If it is going to be solid sun, then no. My chameleon spends most of his day outside(I live in Florida). His cage has many areas that are sunny to bask, and lots of shade to escape the sun if he chooses. I also provide a dripper that drips throughout the day and I mist the cage once or twice a day while he is outside.

I do not dust with d3 anymore period as my chameleon spends most of the day outside in the natural sunshine. I see no reason to, not even twice a month like most members do, but most don't have the luxury of year round sunshine either!

what if i dust every day with repashys calcium plus???

I don't know what happened to your chameleon, it could indeed have been too much vitamin d3 from the supplement, but the sunlight did not hurt it in any way regardless.

Chameleon bodies stop making d3 from sunlight when they have enough d3 already in the system. The d3 can be either dietary or produced from exposure to sunlight. Either way, they stop making it from exposure to sunlight when they have enough in their system already. They *cannot* produce too much d3 from sunlight exposure. That is why it is more safe to use real sunlight and no dietary d3, than it is to use the dietary d3. Dietary d3 can be overdosed, d3 from sunlight, never can be.

So if the dosage of dietary d3 is not excessive indoors under artificial lighting, it cannot be excessive outdoors under sunlight. The only reason dietary d3 is not used when outdoors is because it is unnecessary. It isn't because an appropriate level of dietary d3 in addition to sunlight will cause an overdose. That would be impossible...
