I searched with no luck so now I'm askin you guys.;) I am gettin my first Wc chams(montium pair) And I would like to know what is a safe distance in between cages? Can I put the WC cage next to a panther cage safely? How do the parasites move(can they fly/jump)? How would you go about quarantining a WC pair and for how long?

Thanks,
Dustin

It is probably best to separate them in a completely different room. Parasites travel threw their eggs. So make sure that you disinfect everything after you are with your new (better then panther) chams. There are many possible ways that you can infect your other chams, and some of them being by not washing your hands, water running into one cage then another and a feeder picking up the eggs. They are all smaller chances, and I think the most common is with your hands not being cleaned well enough. I would try to have them on the most opposite side of the room if you can't keep them in another room altogether. Im sure other people with give you more info but that is all I can think of now. Good luck with them. They are my second favorite species so you get a, well you get nothing but I like them.

Quarantine procedures are mainly used to prevent the introduction of pathogens into a pre-existing population of animals while allowing the health of a new one to be accessed and treated if necessary.

I recommend quarantining new arrivals for several months in a separate room from the ones that have been with you for a while.

While they are in quarantine, I recommend looking after the reptiles that have been with you and are already out of quarantine first and then do the "new arrivals". I would not go back into the room where the ones that are out of quarantine are after you deal with the "new arrivals". Do not use equipment used for the ones in quarantine for the ones that are out of quarantine without disinfecting them first.

Generally internal parasites are transferred by the oral/fecal path...but there are some exceptions....so its important to be careful that you don't touch anything that could have feces on it without precautions to prevent parasite transfer. Even allowing the chameleon to walk on you could transfer feces.
