Question about Banana Roaches

Is it just me or have others noticed this: I keep banana roaches but only hand feed them. I hold them by their wings to feed but sometimes they hook a foot on my finger and it really stings. Do others get a stinging sensation from their legs/feet like I do? Is it possibly an allergic reaction?

You mean the "eastern green banana beetles" that I had when the hubby said no roaches in the house? Those? ;)
When I had them, I noticed the same thing. I think their leg spines are just very poky. If it doesn't swell or develop a rash, it's probably not an allergic reaction. Doesn't mean you can't develop one with time, tho.

I told my husband the first dubia nymphs were exotic pill bugs. ;)

I ended up so allergic to my roaches I had to get rid of them all. :( If you ever get allergy tested, cockroaches are standard on the prick test. I knew going into it I was already allergic, but repeated exposure made it worse over the span of about three years. I went from being able to handle them without issues, to blowing up everywhere a leg touched, to full blown asthma attacks just being in the same room as them. If you think you are allergic, limit exposure as much as possible. I wish I had! Might not have gotten so bad so fast.

If the stinging sensation lasts for a while, there's a good likelihood it's an allergy. Mine would swell up, get hot, and burn like crazy for hours, sometimes days if they got me deep.
