I was just curious if anyone ever uses non-reptile brand uvb bulbs for their chameleon? (Delete Link example do to misleading question)

Or some other brand that is not reptisun but has the same uv output and wattage, etc. ? I just wanted to know if we MUST buy the expensive reptisun bulbs or can we buy other ones from say lowes or home depot? I do have a reptisun 5.0 with replacements however I am just curious :D

I don't see anything on that page that states that it's a UVB bulb?

Yes that's true. But that was just a random example but say you found one just like that with uv. I mean are reptisun's etc the only kind of bulb with those qualities? Just wondering

Yes what Hdale85 said. Those are just bulbs that prosuce light not UVB like reptisun

I guess there is no other bulbs out there then? That link was a bad example. My real question was is there any other good kind of bulb other then reptisun, reptiglo, etc. that produces UVB at lowes or home depot? Like say for gardening? And if so does anyone use them?

I'd like to edit the link out because it threw off the whole thing lol

I removed the link because it had no real help to my question. Please read my full actual question before posting your answer please. thank you :)

unless you can measure the UVB output of the light this is probably the only way to know for sure.

there are arcadia bulbs, they last longer and have a longer uv life. Very few bulbs are made specifically for uv output. I am going to go look at tanning bulbs, but i think they will be much too intense for any type of reptile

tanning bulbs are available, I tried to calculate hours and cost. but I am having a time figuring out uv%, without going to the uvguide website, which I dont have time for at the moment. I still would have worries about the % being too intense for a cham

Thanks good answers. I suppose reptisun is my best option. Those other bulbs are too risky and I'd rather buy something expensive that works for my cham than something cheap that I'd have to do more work trying to figure out the UV measurements.

Reptisun wins :D
