Question about my veiled

Hey everybody I have a 9 month old male veiled. I think he is a male, thats what I ordered. He has been a grey color with green stripes for about a month now.. I am just trying to make sure he isn't sick. I have had some people tell me that he is just going thru puberty. He is eating fine, actually we cant get our hands out before he is on the hunt for food. His poop is black with a little white next to it. If anybody can please tell me what they think is wrong with him and let me know how to tell if he is really a he or not that would be awesome. Thanks guys and gals.

Can you post some pics? What are you temps, if he is a darker color sometimes it's because he is trying to get more light/heat?

It is about 75 to 80 f. I can post pics tomorrow on my thread. he isn't a dark grey just light grey with black spots and green strips. We have the 5.0 uvb bulb not tube. and a reg 60 watt house bulb for his basking light.

For his age I would make his basking temp closer to 90-92, try that and see if his color changes. Just don't let the bulb get too close to him!

Also, make sure the humidity levels are consistent. 60% range should suffice. Make sure your UV lights are actually low enough to be effective. If they are too high up then the UV light will not be as effective.

take the house bulb out

ditch the house bulb and go get a zoo meds bulb or something like that. The humidity should be brought up as high as you can around 80% but don't think you need to keep it wet that can lead to problems too. Make sure there is drinking water all day long (drip system) if you take pictures of him I can tell you if he is a male i need to see his head and back feet like elbow down from the back there will be a little triangular patch like a spur on the back of his back feet. get a 75 or 100 bulb sounds like he is just cold make sure he can't burn himself on the light if it's to hot he will move down. keep an eye on the temp. let me know when the pictures are up.

Yea, don't get a needlessly expensive bulb. Stick with household bulbs, they will be fine, but perhaps upping the wattage is what's needed. However, please post photos tomorrow and fill out the "ask for help" form in the health section, it'll make it easier for us to figure out what may be causing this weird color! Try to answer in as much detail as you can please.

Alright yall here is a picture of pascal. I am waiting on the others to be sent to my email. My 3g sucks in my office lol. Thanks for the info yall.

Here are the other two.

It's hard to tell for sure, but it looks like he might have a double elbow in the first picture of those two. I saw on your other thread about him that you have had him for 9 months. Have you gotten a new UVB bulb since you got him? The tube-style lights successfully emit UVB for about 6 months, while the coil style can last as little as 3 months. (They stop emitting UVB way before they stop emitting regular light.) If you have had the same bulb the entire time, it could be MBD. Even if you have replaced it once, it could still be the beginnings of MBD since the compact bulbs can last a very short amount of time.

It is his hand. It does look like it though but it is an illusion. No double elbow.

Ok, good. But yes, you should definitely get a new bulb. I would go with a tube style because they last longer and give off UVB more broadly. In a bigger cage, it is best to use a tube in order to help ensure he will get sufficient UVB as he moves around the cage.

Ok I am a idiot. He is 4 months old we got him in june of this year. And his temps are 82 to 87 at day and 75 at night.

Ok, that changes a lot, lol. His temps are fine for a 4 month old. Basking spot for a male that young should be about 85. And I was wondering how he didn't have MBD if you had the same coil bulb for so long. But you should be just fine as long as you get a new one soon. I think you should move him into a bigger cage with a tube UVB, and that should help his growth take off. I am having the exact same issue with my 4.5 month old male (too small with mostly gray coloring), so that is what I am about to try. And maybe it is related to them going through puberty as well. I know that 4-5 months is usually when that happens for male veileds.

My wife just measured the cage and it is the big boy 24x24x36 cage. I talked to the place where I got it lllreptiles and they said that size would be perfect for a baby and it will be fine for when he grows up. We got the big one so we didn't have to buy another one later on.

Hm, ok. Well, maybe the gray coloring could be due to puberty?

Actually, I just looked back at the form you filled out, and it could be that he's hungry as well. Most forum members agree that baby chams should be fed about 15-20 crickets a day until they are about 6 months old, and then the amount can be reevaluated based on their growth, how quickly they consume the food they are given, etc. You could try feeding him more. I give my male veiled about 10-12 first thing in the morning and then a few more in the early afternoon.

Since you've had the same bulb for such a long time, I would take him out into the sun ASAP to get some real sunlight.

We have only had the bulb for 4 months. I thought he was 9 months old but I am dumb and lose track of time lol. He is only 4 months old. We got him for my daughters birthday which was in may lol.
