Question about setup with a Ceramic Heating Element.

As the title says, I'm wanting to know if a Ceramic Heating element is a good alternative for basking rather than a light bulb.

Is this a suitable replacement, and can it be regulated? I'm considering some type of temp controller (The Spyder Robotic ones are looking real good :) ), but would like to regulate and control the output for a slow warm up.

I'd also like to use a larger sized element so I can use it in the winter as well as summer.

What wattage typically works with glass terrariums? I know the size of the enclosure matters, so right now I have a 18x18x24 cage. In the not to distant future, I'm looking at getting him a 18Dx24Wx36T glass terrarium.

Thanks for any advise.

Thanks.

A ceramic heater is really only good for night time heat if the temps are dropping very low. A cham will not recognize it as a basking spot..

So......what if I put a light next to it? (Low wattage just for the "light effect"?

I'd like to get a controller so slowly bring up the ceramic heater and light to simulate sunrise. Then slowly turn them off again to make it feel like night time.

Guess I gould do that with a bulb... but not sure about adjusting the temps without affecting the light output as well.
