Question:do baby chams need red light at night?

Red lights will keep up the chams. Not a good idea. What are your night time temps?

It's late,my eyes are starting to blur so I will be brief. No Chameleon I know of ever needs or should have any light at night. If I am mistaken someone will correct me soon I'm sure!!! You should start by reading one of the care sheets available on this forum. Most chams need a good 12 hours of light and 12 hours of total darkness. Temperature should drop at night and varies depending on what type of Cham you have. All the information you need is here for you and we all will be happy to help in any way we can! Sorry I am not giving you more details now as I have to get up in about 5 hours so off to bed. I am sure by tomorrow you will be flooded with more and better information then I have provided. There are many links to answer your questions and then everyone will pick up the slack as needed. Welcome to the forum and we love pictures. If you can provide more information about your Cham, type, cage, temps, lighting, heat, humidity etc I am sure you will get many helpful responses.

My day temps are around 82 at basking spot and 77 at bottom , my house temperature is usually around 76 I keep my house pretty warm , and I do live in Florida so my humidity is at a constant 55% but when misted 70%

The only reason why I'm asking is because the breeder I got my Chameleons from used them

Yup that's the night temp in my house it never gets below 75

But what is red bulbs used for if not heat?

no lights at night.
chams need to sleep,
and really could use cooler temps at
night than it seems you have going
in your home.

They are used for heat and that's it. But like everyone says, don't use one because they can still see it. The myth goes that they can't see red light, but they can.

Your temps don't require any additional heat at night but if they did you would use a ceramic heat emitter on a thermostat be ause that doesn't create any light but will keep your buddy warm.

I live on an island in the middle of the North Sea and I require no extra heat at night.

So here is the deal at Petco they give these brochures that say that red light at night is needed and i quote "An incandescent day bulb can be used for basking area during daylight hours only;can use a ceramic heater or black or red incandescent at all hours." Petco does`t know anything about animals and they give out false information to the son owners of the animals. Do you remember the incident in Texas where they trow out the live baby iguana they don`t know anything about real animals. I recently got a Cham for my B-Day and read the care sheet they gave us it said all this wrong information that is why Chameleon Forums is a great and reliable source of information it holds many persistent owners who know what they are talking about.
