Question for Misting System Owners

I have three cages and a Herpmist... 3 nozzles 80 degree and 4 cage adapters. I am considering adding a couple of nozzles and some shutoff valves etc and had a couple of questions for other herpmist / mistking owners..

#1 How many nozzles in each of your cages..

currently I have two 24X24X48 and a smaller baby cage 12X18X24. I was planning two nozzles in the larger cages and one in the smaller cage. But would need to order more nozzles.

#2 Does anyone use the in-line filter? If using reverse osmosis or distilled water would it even be necessary?

#3 anyone using a heater and if so what kind..

Thanks again for everyones help,

Ryan

hey, Ryan

one each.

also start to thinking of adding another one for the big cage.

I used filtered water for misting. If you have RO water, i don't think it's necessary to install another filter.

#3 anyone using a heater and if so what kind..
Yes, I am using Hydor Inline heater.

Thanks a lot for your help. Do you use the 200W or 300W heater

The only reason you'd need the inline filter is if you are drawing the water from within the terrarium. I don't recommend doing that anyway, but with RO water, you're lightyears away from needing it. :)

how are you using reverse osmosis?
Im very interested in this, any links to parts etc would be appreciated.

dodolah how does the heater hook into the system? I am getting very close to buying one of these. Are there adapters or do I need ot buy some.

Mr Weldon helped me attach the inline heater.
I hope i don't butcher the tool name that he used..
I think he used a "pipe threading tool." (Wishing Dave will chime in here, whether i got it right or wrong).

we use that tool to cut into both ends of the hydor (where you supposed to attached big hose) and make spiral ridges so you can attach the thingamajig that Herpmist use to connect into poly tubing (I think it's called "union".)

After connecting it, we sealed with some kind of a tape.
If I have to guess the name of the tape is "sealant tape.":eek::p

OMG! now you know why i never make any DIY project.

Howdy,

For Dodolah's (and Mika's too), I used a 1/4 pipe thread tap to cut pipe threads inside the Hydor ends.

The adpater that Ryan posted a link to looks like it should work by using 4 hose clamps and a short piece of the big tubing between the heater's O.D. ends and the adapter's O.D. ends to then end-up with a female 1/4" I.D. Quick-Connect female.

You want to put the Hydor heater as close as reasonable to the mist nozzles. You may find that reversing the water flow relative to the direction arrow actually heats the water better . Also, don't forget the "burp" your heater. Trapped air will greatly reduce the efficiency of the heater.

Awesome , thanks everyone. I appreciate all the help. I am going ot buy the heater probably next week.

btw, they sell the fitting you are looking for at HOME DEPOT, it just require a small amount of primer and pvc glue and set time so you can get a nice seal
