Im going to be gone away from home for a day and a half... And im leaving my 3 1/2 month old panther alone... Im so worried that something will happen to him.. Is there anything that i can do so that he will be alive when i get back home..

I have no one that will do it.. I left him a cup of crickets and im going to leave the lights off...

Yikes! You should at the VERY least run out and get a light timer. Who is going to mist him? Sounds like a bit of trouble to me...

Can you just run and purchase a cheap light timer? And still, more important than the lights, how is he going to get any water??

Edit: and in answer to your question, you'll really throw him off leaving the lights on all the time for two days. They need a night cooling period to be able to rest. I would be WAY more worried about the water, though.

When are you leaving? Is there ANY way you can talk with someone about helping you out? Even a local vet's office? Sometimes they do animal boarding. Having someone to help you with your pet while you are away is always a consideration when you buy one. I hope you didn't know about this trip before you bought him recently!

He is going to NEED water and his lights turned on and off. That is just basic. Water is an absolute MUST.

You can buy an inexpensive timer for the lights from big lots but he really shouldnt be without water for that long...not at that age. You need to have a friend from school or something come over. How would you feel if you went without anything to drink for that long?

I got my timer from my regular pet store. It was in the aquarium section for $8 but they had one near the herp's for $30!

Again, I suggest you try to find a friend or neighbor. Most young people think chameleons are really neat and wouldn't mine helping you out. You should be able to find someone for 2 days if you try. It wouldn't be that hard to just mist and turn the lights on and off and put in some food. Jann

this is exactly why total n00bsaibots should not be sold chameleons

I think that kind of comment isn't helpful. He is asking for help for a situation he obviously can't easily change.

Of course there are things he can do for a day and 1/2. I would think a dripper would be most helpful for those short periods of time. Even a home made dripper would be helpful.

I know that my reptile store will board herps.

Yes Dripped is a good idea! and a timer for the lights. I wouldn't do this.... but if you were going to either have them on or off, I would say off. If he gets some light from a window he'll be able to have a semi normal day and then sleep when the sun sets.

Build a dripper son, Very easy! Get a milk carton and poke a small hole in the bottom and place it on top of the cage. You want about one drip per second. Fill the thing up all the way with water and it'll last you a day or two. Make sure you have the water drip onto some plant leaves so your cham can drink off of something.
