Question

everyone is entitled to there own opinions, i sent him a link before you posted to give him instructions on how to find my DIY dripper thread.

I still stand by my opinion though, that anyone who would come up with the solution of leaving the lights off before picking up a timer, the easiest and cheapest thing...is obviously in a pre-ownership phase and for members doing research on the forum right now, they should take the time to take note that you should have your habitat completely up and running before you run and buy a cham....with the expectation that you will probably be leaving town for at least 2 consecutive days at some point during the year

you guys!

im not gonna lie-you guys are like a cult! i kinda like it though. i was about to go out and make many mistakes till i found this forum. you guys really help and scare people (novices) into doing the right thing. so keep it up, but just realize, probably the case with the person abandoning his ($400) panther, that situations do arise and we are forced to do things we normally wouldn't. hopefully we can all take a little something from this.

Pantherkid bought a timer for his chameleon's lights that night as soon as we let him know he needed one, but as he was leaving the very next morning and I contacted him late at night, there was no way for him to drop off or me to pick up his little guy before he left. If I thought the chameleon was in danger (if he was going to be gone longer than 1.5 days) I would definitely have driven there at 1am, but pantherkid worked out his setup so that the chameleon would only be left for half a day without human attention, and he would have a normal lighting schedule while he was gone. I gave him my email address so that next time he can contact me to pick up his chameleon a day or so ahead of time if he's going out of town.

After that he can come up to Toronto Canada and watch our gang soI can get a weekend off!:D

Christen, what about water? Did he set something up? I was definitely far more concerned about the water situation than the lights....

Water was definitely my major concern as well, but he made sure to provide for the long day that he was away.

you shouldnt leave him....but lets just assume you must.

1. Buy the cheap timer (you'll appreciate having this anyways, as it will make for a regular on/off time without you doing anything).

2. Make two cheap drippers, that will drip slowly slowly slowly. freeze one. A large solid block of ice will take several hours to get to the point where it will drip, especially if you can locate it far from the lights. Make sure of course there is somewhere for all the water to go / collect.

3. Put several open buckets of water in the room your cham is in (if its a large room, have more buckets. And hang some wet towels in the area. This will help slightly in raising the ambient humdity.

additional, after realizing how old the original post was > way to go to Spatulars for offering to help out!
