Question

So my Cedric Diggory Cheshire aka Mr. Pissy Pants is getting older, and bigger. His cluth hatched in the beginning of June. I currently have him in a small cage but the plant has filled out so much that it doesnt seem like he has as much room to climb around, I could trim the plant, but I am thinking of just upgrading him to a large cage. I was looking on chameleonsonly.com and their large cage is 30"L x 18"W x 36"H which I think would be a good size but is pretty pricey. Does anyone recommened a different site/place to get a large cage for him from? Or does anyone have a large extra cage and I will buy it off you if it is still in good shape etc. He is a male ambilobe panther. :D

It would depend on whether or not your cham has any free range time outside his cage each day. Adult Panthers will be a bit tight in an 18x18x36... I'd go to a 24x24x36 or 24x24x48.

I try taking him out during the day to let him get some natural sunlight, but it is nearly impossible. He is SO MEAN! He puffs up and then gets black bars and starts hissing. When he does that then if I move closer he will snap and try to bite me!! Is this normal for 5 months? I know pretty much all chams are not social but man, he is a meanie! But then once he gets out he loves it and just sits on my head outside and soaks in the sun.

Are you wearing anything when you try to take him out?
When I was trying to take out my males while wearing black gloves they would freak out every time.
Without gloves they're surprisingly calm unless they're in the back of the cage in the resting place.

Both of my males had the exact same reaction to the gloves.

^^
what he said...
i just moved my male into his 24x24x48. its a beast of a cage but DIY does have nice cages. and ship is free!

No I don't wear gloves at all! He freaks out when any one tries to hold him :/ ?

A lot of chameleons are like than, especially veileds. He's probably also getting close to hitting 'puberty' and they often have mean streaks and occationaly hand humping streaks. Sometimes they will snap out of it by the time they're about a year old, but some don't.

I just use a stick or wooden rod of some sort. After hes out of the cage on the stick, he should be okay.

Did you watch Vincent's video from screameleons on how to handle defensive chameleons? It may be helpful to you when you are handling your chams. I personally never wear gloves to handle my chameleons, even if they bite it doesn't really hurt. As for enclosures go, I would get one from LLLreptile they are great priced and excellent quality. DIYcages also are nice as I still use some, but I really like LLL.

Sadly none of those Chams were as defensive as mine when I wore gloves

DIYcages are made in China, or so I remember from another thread.. and LLL's are made here!
