im fairly new to chameleons...i live in south texas and as of right now the tempature is between 90 and 96 degrees witht the heat index bein around 105.my question is is it to hot for them to be outside all day in the direct sunlight or do they need to be in the shade?i would really appreciate some information if yall could find the time to help me...thanks

direct sunlight all day in those temps would kill your chameleon. They have to be able to get out of the sunl You need to provide shade and water and preferably a misting system to cool them down. I live in FLA and it is very hot also. I take my chams out in the morning for a few hours of sun. I bring them back inside during midday and then back outside again in the later afternoon. There are members, at least the ones I know of who live down here who have them outside all day long but they are in well shaded enclosures and are misted down on a regular basis. I am talking about veilds and panthers. What kind do you have?

Yep. Depends on which species you have. Whichever you have, you must provide plenty of shade and as stated, regular mistings. Watch for constant gaping of the mouth.

all 3 are panthers....i really appreciate the info..this is a very cool sight.im just figuring out how to use it.lol....im from the country.thanks agian

panthers can tolerate high temps but still direct sunlight all day without being able to cool down, in my opinion you would kill them. If you can provide shade, and a way to mist down their enclosure periodically then you might be ok The tell tale sign is if they are gaping. If you go out there and they are constantly holding their mouths .open then I would not rish keeping them outside.

you have been very helpful...i just bought a female ambilobe from bruce at chameleon paradise and am getting ready to breed her so im sure il have plenty of questions.its good to know yall are willing to help.
