Huh.. I have at least one leaf cham with blue eyes. I didn't realize it was unusual, so I never paid much attention.. but I have noticed it in one of the males, because they are pretty! Here is a blown up picture of his head:

I will try to get a couple more pictures of him tomorrow that show his eye color, but he is asleep right now. Kyle, I have some eggs incubating now that are sired by this guy. Interested in swapping some blood? I would love to have a couple out of your white female.

Heika

Heika,

That's very interesting. I believe most of my brev's iris' are a yellow/gold color. I'd definately be interested in swapping blood, but I've got to get my pygmies to breed first. I've had them for over 6 months and I still don't have any eggs. :(

I dont think there is anything special about red, yellow, orange etc Brevs...

Well, regardless of whether it is special or not, it is interesting. After a quick check of my group, he appears to be the only one of my 11 adult brevs that has blue eyes, and he is also the only yellow/orange colored brev in my group. If anyone has any of the yellow/orange brevs out there, I would be very curious to know if they have blue eyes. It would also be interesting to know whether certain physical areas where the brevs are collected are higher in concentrations of different colored brevs, or if they are a natural variation of standard colors, but I have no idea how to find that out. Roo has some amazing brevs of different colors also.. some green, some blue.

I agree completely that Kyle's little lady is special. She is a beauty. Kyle, she looks really large compared to the other brev you are holding. I have wondered if older brevs quit producing eggs after a time. I have a couple larger females, and have never seen them lay eggs. This doesn't really mean a lot.. I could have just missed it.

No, I really don't. I just redid my tank 2 weeks ago, and sifted through the old substrate with a miniature rake. I even tore the root balls of plants apart. I combed it for 2 hours and found nothing. I've observed mating, but none of my females have ever looked gravid.

Thanks Heika. I originally bought a 1.2 group of WC's, and she was always the largest. But then I got to see Roo's collection in person and his brevs are HUGE compared to mine. Literally double the size. The funny thing is, in the 6+ months that I've had them, the original trio hasn't grown at all... but the CB's I get from Roo are definately growing.

Hey Kyle,

I wonder if there is something to the size/age thing, then. Are all of your females large? That is an interesting question about all chams, actually. Do females quit reproducing after a while?

Huh.. so much for the size theory?!? Wonder why your WC girls aren't reproducing..? Mine seem to be little egg laying machines, but there could be exceptions to that. For the most part, I just find eggs in the cages, so it is hard to tell who is laying and who isn't. Would you guess that Roo's CBs are huge because they have always had ideal conditions.. lots of food, water, no parasites, etc? I have only had my groups for around 3 months now, and have only seen 2 of them shed, so I don't think they are growing very rapidly either.

It's hard to say about sheer size (bone structure), but Roo definately keeps his brevs nice and fat! I'm pretty sure that his WC's are huge too. I've seen all of mine shed, but the CB's are the only ones that shed often. Then again, he also owns the largest veiled I've ever seen, so maybe he's just got the magic. :D

How are your babies doing?

Great! There are 13 of the little guys now, and they seem to be doing really well. Only a few eggs left to hatch, and they look like they could pop any day.
