R.I.P Little Guy

Our Little Guy Passed last night. He got severely compacted, the vet prescribed a number of treatments, but none worked. After going under anesthesia the vet removed copious amounts of waste, but he wasn't able to recover and died the following night. Here are some photos in commemoration of his life.

I buried him 2 hours ago under one of his favorite trees, & miss him dearly.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.... I love the picture of the mantis on his face!!! Again sorry for the loss...:(

I'm so sorry to hear of his death. My sympathies go out to you. His pictures are lovely, and make a beautiful tribute to him.

Wow...he was a sweetheart :(

So sorry for your loss of such a beautiful cham, I love the first photo of him, he looked like quite a character....

hey I just lost a panther aswell. It is hard to see them go down.Well he looks like he lived a good life though,as mine never grew up but was my first reptile and tried my best with her.Sometimes you're hardest is not good enough.your guy looks awesome so don't forget him

I`m so sorry you lost him. You obviously did absolutely everything to give him a fighting chance and loved him very much :( He was a beautiful boy.

so sorry to hear about your loss.... you did everything you could....I love the mantis pic as well. so nice to see someone comemerate the life of the cham in its obituary. I think we should have seperate area for obituaries. so that newbies can read about the passing of chams and things that caused the cham to pass even though the oweners do everything to help their situation. I think it would be very educational as well as comemerative. again so for your loss he seemed like a onderful little fellow

I agree with Courtney that we should have a separate area for obituaries.

sorry man. I am getting ready too start my venture in breeding. I lost three Chameleons so far and everytime It made me stronger and smarter in my research on these animals. My venture now is to learn what makes our animals sick and how to cure them without high expense costs of Vetranarians that just guess on what is wrong with these animals. Most Vets know very little about reptiles and it is up to us to learn how not just care for but heal these animals. In my area there is not 1 Vet that specializes in Reptiles, and most Vets dont have a clue to anything except cats and dogs! Your animal was beautiful with a very different array of colors, and is a huge loss in the Chameleon loving world. Cheers to the life of your little guy and much luck on your future venture into the world of Chameleons! When I finally start breeding these animals I am going to sell my Chameleons for 40% cheeper to people who have lost a chameleon, as long as the owner was doing everything right and has an adequate cage setup. I know how it feels to be on the end of this loss and the sadness of how I will ever be able to afford another animal at 299.00!

I'm sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful animal.

Mudshark: while these animals are expensive there is a good reason. By lowering the price of these panthers you will be causing the price of these animals go down all together if your breeding buisiness takes off. There is also a reason why chameleons are cheaper with set ups. Essentially why would you buy a 250 dollar chameleon and not do research to keep it alive? With the cage set ups the animals are more likely to live and are thus sold for less. Selling them for less will not make them more likely to be alive in the hands of a careless person.

Now if you only plan to breed once or twice, that's a whole different story as you'd be able to screen potential buyers and what not. Though $299 is more of an adult price or a very established well-known breeder price as you are almost guarenteed a nice healthy baby.

I do plan on becoming a true breeder not just once or twice, and I do not intend on selling at that cost to everybody who loses a chameleon, just to people who lost one that was not at thier fault. Some of the bigger petshops buy and sell stressed out babies that where scooped right from the jungle and have sickness that they carry with them for months and then just die. Another breeder which I really respect and care for sells a pet guarntee of 30 days only if you buy thier setup kit. They only sell the guarentee if the people pay more money. In many cases (like this gentleman may be an example of) probably has a healthy cage setup that he may or may not of bought with his chameleon. In a case like this why does he not get a 30 day health guarntee, because he dont shell out more money. Well I see it as if he has an adequate setup, and his loss of his reptile was not his fault, then why not make it easier for him and sell him his next chameleon at a discount. The guy is sad about his loss and most likely has some stress not only over the loss of his pet or in this case seemed like a companion, I feel like it would be a kind gesture to offer him a healthy stress free pet at a cheaper price, which also would make him healthier for reducing the stress of the cost of his next pet/companion. Like I said It would only apply to people who really took great care of thier pet and had a very clean, healthy, and safe enviroment. Of course I would still offer to sell my Chams with a setup, but mine would also carry a health guarentee (all of them). I respect and understand your concerns, and I am always open to suggestions and input like what you gave me. Like I said I am just starting this thing and hope to make a living doing it. So any help or advice is great for me you know...;)

If you plan to make a living off these animals you will probably not have time to screen every customer. While it is nice of you to offer this to people who have lost a pet, anyone can say they lost a chameleon. It also would cause you to make less money to screen all customers and all potential customers as not all will end up buying. While you should care about your animals it is just not a good plan for your buisiness. A 30 day health gurantee would be great, but it'd only work if you knew what every customer was doing all the time as it's easy to kill a chameleon in a month. If you sold a set up with a 30 day gurantee it would be easier because you know what is going on. The best thing I think you can do is to sell at a regular price, discount with the set up and send a care sheet that is well thought out and offer your time to buyers who have additional questions.

Your right about screening. I have time thinking it out. I do really appretiate your input...
