This may be a weird question but why do chameleons have two penises?? I have a 6 month old male and noticed this while he was going to the bathroom. Just wondering if there is any special reason...

They do indeed. They're called hemipenes rather than penis because they are only for reproductive purposes, they don't have a urethra in them. But they are paired.

Do they use both while mating? I just find it interesting, I've never heard of such a thing. Apparently snakes have it too.

just like sharks they have double reproductive organs its apperently to have a higher success rate in mating and part of their evolution

I didnt know that, sharks also have two "penines" that are claspers. That is the only time I have heard of such a thing

LOL, all squamatas (snakes and lizards) have 2 hemipenes. They usually use one at a time and often switch back and forth with each breeding.

Sugar gliders possess a bifurcated (double shafted) penis, and each works independently! Interestingly, whilst researching this fact (it's been a lon time since I had a glider) I stumbled on a Top 10 Penises list! Apparently the Echidna has a four headed penis! I read somewhere that snakes have 2 for easier access if you will, depending on which side of the female their body is.. If you think about it, it makes since.. It would also makes since for chameleons.

In related news, my friend recently split his penis, so, technically, he also has two penises. it looks really really weird. And, to be frank, rather intimidating. I don't know how the female chams deal with it.
