I love using live plants in all my chameleon cgaes and tanks. I HATE! I repeat, HATE! Cleaning out the petrolite! It takes FOREVER!!! Sorry I had to get that out of my system.

i think it is perolite. The little white stuff that comes in the dirt in the plants you buy from home depot, lowes etc. I just cover mine up with large river rocks so my chameleon cannot get at the soil.
Perlite. And yes, you should be getting organic soil without the perlite and/or other fertilizers, so you can replace and re-pot all of your new live plants.
Is the need for organic soil purely for the chance that the cham could consume some soil? Or will fertilizer make the plant unsafe if he's a bit of a leaf eater?
Come on people...I always replant with eco earth because I get it wholesale...It's just a hassle when you get new plants you have to clean them first and they are normally filled with that stuff. The plants already come planted like that. I know about covering w/ rocks so they don't have access but I like to clean the plants as much as possible before letting my chams live on them.
