Recent imports!

The infractions had to do with the cities paper work saying cameleo, needing to say furcifer. We import directly from the collector. No middle man here. So they would have to go back to Madagascar.

Better to put the seller on notice that infractions won't be tolerated than to keep putting other animals at risk. The need for "those papers" probably saved many other chams from stress and death over the years.

You are making a point here and i can not argue with that! ;) However, i still think the animals shouldn't go back to Madagascar in these cases.

As someone asked, i am curious too to know what are the exact reasons the process isn't working.

Super lame. I don't suppose it would help to point out to USF&W that CITES actually specifies in a number of places that Furcifer was formerly Chamaeleo? I was also just looking at the 2010 export quotas that were recently published. No quota is listed for any of the Furcifer species and there is NO mention about all but the 4 species of Brookesia being suspended as well!

Edit: I looked further into quotas for other nations and it certainly appears the list I referred to above is incomplete and there must be updates on the way. Lots of zeros and for Tanzania, only two species have quotas!

unfortunately, USFWS does not care that on their own internal memos they recognize Furcifer as formerly Chamaeleo. So, I am surrendering 56 oustaleti and 6 lateralis on friday.

You can thank USFWS for not being able to see any of those amazing oustaletti from me in the trade.

-one very pissed importer.

So they inspected and approved the shipment. then they found a typo. in the paperwork and you have to send them back.....wow our gov't never fails to amaze me with their stupidity.

Last year a girl found a orphan whitetail deer faun in her yard so she feed it and call ODNR (Ohio dept. of natural resources) told them she found a faun in her yard.
They told her to take care of it until they find a home for it (zoo)
They never called back
2 months later USFWS shows up shoots the deer and arrests her for keeping a wild animal in captivity (the deer slept on her porch)
Another job well done by our gov't:confused:
