Red on baby Nosy Be???

I recently got my nosy be, "Hawkeye," from kammers, he's 3 months old. He comes from a true blue line and his sire has no red and his mothers sire has a few tiny specks around his eyes. Here is a pic of the sire, "Elladan", and then the dame's sire, "Caranthir," and then my little guy. As you can see they both have little red. Anyway, my little guy seems to have orange rings around his eyes, and "red rain" on his abdomen and dewlap. I personally prefer a nosy be that is solid blue like Hawkeye's sire. So, I was wondering, is this red common in true blues this young? And does it usually go away? Or will he likely have this red for the rest of his life?

Haha, don't be. I put in the first order on this clutch and therefore requested and got an "early bloomer". Chams mature at different rates so this doesn't necessarily mean mine will look better than yours as an adult. I can tell you this, I'll love my guy either way but I might be a little jealous if yours ends up solid blue and mine keeps this red rain.

EDIT: has yours been showing any red at all?

i havent seen any but i havent really been messing with him. Im thnking i might try tm

It's always really hard to say with panther males, the red could disapear to some extent or stay forever. My Nosy's red freckles survived into adulthood. It doesn't seem like they're very many, and they won't stay that big in proportion to him forever, by the time he's full grown they really will be just little freckles and you probably won't notice them that much.

Sort of like the red freckles on Caranthir, those little black dots are really red freckles.

Does he ever turn a pale bluish grey? If so, this is when you can see some speckles around his belly easily. When mine fires up, these speckles turn red.

yes he has i havent seen any red but like i said you know its only from the cage i can see him, from them pics i just took of him sleepiong i see like a green color idk if you looked its under post aww

Caranthir is a male he was Bodhi's sire.

Edit I read your post wrong lol sorry

He looks awesome. And you never know what you will get. Bodhi was from the true blue line and he stayed green. At first I was mad but I would not have traded him for anything he was the best Cham I have had and I miss him very much. Your boy will go through a lot of change just be patient and take care of him....and if you don't want him I'll take'em ;) we might get a boy from the same clutch..

I have A 7 month old nosy be. Can anyone tell me what a Nosy bes stress colors look like. When mine basks hes I green with black barring and his white stripe. When he zips around his cage he either blue with the white stripe or a greenish blue with some barring shwong and sometimes his stripe is brown

Hopefully you're right, if he ends up looking like Caranthir, I'll be a happy camper. But this is what I'm afraid of. You can get nosy bes like this for half of what I paid for Hawkeye.

Yeah it's not that I would disown him or anything, it's just that I payed a lot of extra money specifically for a the true blue bloodline.

LOL That's my guy! And he's not a Nosy Be, he's supposed to be a Nosy Faly x Ambanja, that's why he has so much red.

To rest your worries, this is how much red he had even as a 3 month old. You'll notice that it was significant even then:

I don't see SO many spots that it'll be any more noticeable than on Caranthir, I think. I still think he'll turn out to be a pretty spectacular true-blue Nosy. And they with the exception of maybe the gular region, they'll become very tiny in proportion to him.

If you look at all the wild Nosy Be's Jann posted from her trip you can see those genes are there in any Nosy Be bloodline. I personally feel the mono chromatic ones are a bit boring

I do love nosy Bes with darker blue barring and lots of yellow on the face and eyes, however I really don't like the red and it seems that the ones with lots of barring and yellow are more prone to red. Even so, I have seen pics of WC Nosy Bes that fit this image, but as you know, the offspring of WC animals can have erratic variability in the coloration of their offspring. An example of this would be the Nosy Bes from the Cham. Company, if you look at members' chams from this you see a great deal of inconsistency in chams from the same lines.

For instance I love the look of the WC NB in this ad, but I think buying one of its offspring would be a big gamble.

To me a "true blue" would be true blue, no red, no green and no yellow. just a rich cobalt blue. I posted a thread not too long ago about what people would consider a true blue. I guess it falls on your personal preference and personal standards. I have been looking for a male that is cobalt blue with white lips. I feel the yellow lip gene are shared by those that a carrying the green/yellow body glow gene that throws off the cobalt blue coloration in hatchlings. For future reference if you are looking to capture a certain type of look in your chams, its important that you get as much lineage info and pictures as possible. Sibling pictures help a lot as well. It will give you fuller spectrum of the gene pool in that line. Id also avoid getting hatchlings if you are looking for a certain look because growing one out and spending so much time/money to could lead to disappointment. Remember getting the male is the easier part. IF youre looking to breed them, getting females that have genes of the same quality will be the hard part. I have been on the look out for some true cobalt blues for a while now with no luck. But at the same time I wont rush into a new project if i cant produce exactly what i am looking for. I hope this helps and best of luck to you.

I'm sorry but that just isn't always the case. Nosy be in the wild can be green in color and they can have a little red. Even the "true blue" lines will have half yellow lips from time to time. Even if you bred what you know are "true blues" , you can have males that develop red, half yellow lips, etc.

My Plasma came from Vincent at Screameleons and he is considered a "True Blue", but has a half yellow lip. I do have to say, I do like the cobalt blue look, but I am open to some variation.

Here is Plasma:

yes i realize how hard it is to achieve a perfect true blue in my eyes but it is one of my goals to get a line that only produces them.
