Reptibreeze XL converting to Hybrid

Hello,

New to chameleons. Will be getting a captive bred panther by the end of the month. So I have some time getting the enclosure all set up.

So far I have the following:

Standard dome basking light
Arcadia Lumenize 6% UVB
Fogger
MistKing
Dragon ledges
Reptibreeze XL
Live plants
Dripper

The cost rack up quick!! lol especially when it’s important to get a captive bred. With further research, I’m considering going the hybrid route. Had to cut some cost so I couldn’t just flat out buy one due to cost. Seems that window shrink wrap is the easiest and probably the most popular option.

However, since I have Dragon Ledges, I’m thinking I can use better material like PVC board. I’m looking to see if anyone has any examples of using PVC board or plastic panels on the Reptibreeze. Mostly on how it’s attached. If it’s better to attach on the inside or outside. And if the cage existing holes will be sufficient to use and get slightly longer screws. Seems like the dragon ledges will also add some support. Any good photos will do since I’m a pretty visual learner. Anything helps. Son picked chameleon so I’m doing what I can to provide top tier care lol. Thanks

Sounds great!!

What type of Furcifer pardalis are you buying? As well pictures of your enclosure, plants, chameleon and equipment in the enclosure would be a plus for readers to provide guidance about. You did not give the dimensions of your Reptibreeze. I recommend providing those too.

Good luck with your new Panther Chameleon, Furcifer pardalis.

There is a Chameleon Forums General Care Form. I would fill that out too.

Best Regards

Ambilobe. Might be a rainbow or RBBB. The dimensions to the Reptibreeze is 2’x2’x4’. I haven’t put the cage 100% together yet because I want to close the sides and back. Of which, might require doing it while the cage is in pieces. The other equipment from my list is also in my office ready to install after I get the cage finalized.

Good morning. I went this route with a cage last year for the same reason. I used black corrugated plastic on the side facing the wall and the back. I used double sided tape along the outside aluminum frame of the cage and just stuck it to it. You could easily do the same thing on the inside if you want. For the other side that was facing the room and the door, I used window insulator film, like Bill shows in his videos. For the bottom access door, I cut another piece of corrugated plastic to fit and drilled a single row of holes ever 1”. I need that part covered up to hold humidity and fog in at night. I remove it every morning for ventilation, but, you could also easily just install a small computer fan to the top of the cage and get the same effect and avoid taking that piece on and off. A year later and it’s holding up well. Plastic is in good shape but could be replaced to get rid of the hard water spots that have accumulated.

As for the ledges, I’m sure you can still make it work but you’d still be securing them to the aluminum frame of the cage.

Good luck!!

Nice. You Furcifer pardalis looks like a stunner. I am fond of Reptibreezes too. They are not harsh on chameleons feet when it comes to screen climbing.
