so ive head alot of things about compact bulbs, eye problems,death.etc. these were mostly said about other brands of these compact bulbs. also ive heard that most of these problems have been fixed? ive searched the forums and none of them have been very helpful. so im hoping once and for all if these reptisun compact fluorescent bulbs are safe or just garbage???

At this point they're probably safe. We say to not use them as a precaution. There were problems with them but they're apparently fixed. The thing is, when you purchase one, you don't know how old it is. If you receive an old one, it might have that problem.

usually you could track the manufactured date. does any1 have anything positive to say about these some1 who has used these??

i've always used compact. no problems ever. just replace them when needed and looks for any possible signs. if something ever happend like early signs of MBD i'd switch. unill then im sticking with this :)

sweet thanks. im still looking for some more people to step up with their positive stories! the tube lights and hoods are so expensive dammit...

there is a thread here about the packageing differences between the old bulbs and the new. It is very detailed, pictures incl.

it is by one of our older members(time wise, not age)
it has all the info you will need to get your answers about how to look

I will see if I can find it, or I will ask Ben, he seems to be able to find anything

also a really great lighting website is the uv guide uk, it has alot of info on it, some is outdated, but you can see the improvements companies are making.

it gives info on uv and reptiles, etc

was the problem with the spectrum or the bulb? I'm using a 15w CF bulb on my guys cage just for extra daylight and I'm scared it could be causing issues because of these stories

If you have any inkling that you ever may want an upgrade (I wish somebody would have told me sooner), I would highly recommend an arcadia light fixture. A UVB bulb found at most stores with a fixture is about 40 dollars anyways. The 24" arcadia fixture I have with the 6500k and a 5.0 UVB seems so much better in my opinion.

Check out Lightyourreptiles.com and email Larry any, and I mean any questions you have about lighting. I have two dual 24" tropic blaze fixtures and they are excellent. I'm running two 6500k bulbs, a 5.0uvb bulb and a plant pro bulb. Excellent products and excellent customer service.

Aqua traders has a quad fixture as well. Comes with 6500k bulbs. Just add a plant pro bulb and a 5.0 UVB bulb and you'll come out cheaper. It also has a built in timer.
