"PURCHASED" a cham today.....
Or at least thats what i consider it.
I went to a local pet store for some crix a couple days ago, and i saw something kinda sad. A large adult male vield all browned out sitting still on a small log on the floor of a tiney 16"X16"X20" cage. I could tell he wasnt taken care of very well by the big bowl of water next to him and no dripper, mister, or u.v. Lighting. Just a basking light a fogger and some crickets. I told the employee (whom i knew kinda well from frequenting the store for crickets) all about better cham care(misting, a dripper, vitamin dusting...yada yada yada) and asked if the owner was going to be in that day. She said no she won't but she will on monday. She let me examine him for health issues and he seemed fine. Just gaped at me for a sec but then calmed down and was sitting still on my hand all brown and stressed. Then she told me how they came upon this guy. A couple kids found him in the middle of the street and brought him in and gave it to them.
So all weekend im worried about this thing. I had not planned on getting another cham. Im perfectly sattisfied with the ones i have. But the fact that they were trying to sell it for a lot "with settup" (if u can call it that) made me worried some idiot was gonna buy it and it was just going to be a misserable experience for the both of them. So i went in there today with the goal of either talking them into putting the cham in a better settup and including a book about them with it. Or just letting me take it home.
When i arrived i started handling him again and convinced the lady to at least give him a dripper and she starts setting it up and says i should buy it cuz they normally cost a lot by themselves without a cage. I told her "yeah a panther or a rare species...... But not a vield with no prior knowledge of its health or care." I told her "this thing could be wild caught or full of parasites or any other countless problems." And i dont need that settup he is better off living on my pothos plant at home. She asked if i was gonna get him or not cuz she was gonna set up the dripper.
After a call to the owner she let me walk out with him and some more crickets at a gernerous discount. So im gonna quarantine him for a while... See how he is... And my fiance and i will decide wether or not we should keep him or adopt him out. For now he is on my pothos with a heat bulb and uv fixture aimed at him from the adjacent book shelf and we are misting him manually. Tomaro we decide on either turning it into a free range in our living room or building a new cage.
Ill take better pics tomaro as well.
