Restless Panther

So my panther chameleon has this habit of becoming hyper about two hours before his lights turn off. He climbs all over his cage, mostly on the ceiling. I first thought that he wanted out to explore, but when I open the cage door, he retreats to the back for a bit and comes back, but never climbing out. He just comes really close. He is my first chameleon, so I'm not entirely familiar with their behavior yet. Can someone explain this to me?

How old is he and how large is his cage? Maybe he finds the cage too small, maybe he is looking for a good bedtime spot.

It could be just his active time. My baby veileds are active in the morning and late in the afternoon - active more than my adults in general but especially at those times.

It sounds like fairly normal behavior. No way to tell if hes sick without more info, but thats not an indicator for sickness really. He may just be doing a "tour" of the area to make sure he is safe for sleepy time:)
If for some reason you think he not doing well, fill out the "how to ask for help" form, so everyone can evaluate his care, and see if its ok.
But like I said, sounds normal:)

He looks and acts pretty healthy. He's just a little more energetic than I thought a chameleon would be. It's a little surprising.

weve just moved our veiled into his big boy viv and he just goes round and round and round and round........ tottally hyper! i think its normal though he settles down at night in his spot :)

This is so funny! I have the exact same issue! My 4mo old Faly is so restless before he goes to bed, not so much this week but almost every night last week. He will run around up and down the cage, not super fast but he sure makes it around. I really think it's just extra energy before they go to bed, he's settled down a bit before bed this week so far, maybe its just a phase lol.
