RIP Serius Green- kidney failure

Just lost my veiled today due to kidney failure... vet said his potassium levels were off the charts.
He had plenty of water, misting and variety of foods including calcium dusting on foods, uva/ uvb lighting.. wondering what I could have done differently?
My panther is doing great - but now I'm second guessing if I missed something in care that might affect my other guy.
Any thoughts on kidney issues?

What were you gutloading with? Maybe he got too much potassium from your gutload. Also were you using a multi vitamin at all?? I have seen many chameleons die from kidney failure over the years on here and a couple of the other groups I belong to. I am not sure why it is so common. I am sorry your chameleon died.

Crickets are fed flukers, and dusted 2x per week with Repashy calcium. I was also feeding hornworms and occasionally superworms. The sickness came on suddenly over the last couple of days, but he refused to eat for a couple days prior. The vet seemed to think he was likely ill since the time I got him last November as a juvenile, but I can't help thinking I could have done something else.

Flukers, as a gutloaded is very poor in nutrition. Which repashy were you dusting with? You weren't dusting with a multivitamin at all? Did your repashy include d3

The Repashy does have D3, but I don't have multivitamin. What should I use for multivitamin and calcium, gut loading etc? I'm concerned now for my panther and don't want anything happening to him

Well if it's repashy calcium plus, its also is considered a multivitamin, but I think you are supposed to dust every feeding with it... however I am not sure on that. Someone with more experience using repashy products should chime in there. There are gutloaded sold on the forum such as Cricket Crack, bug buffet, super chow, or my own. For a water source just use fresh fruits and veggies.

Prolonged low humidity levels can lead to kidney problems in chameleons,check with a proper digital devise and maintain ur proper humidity in ur chameleon enclosure .
Something about his hydration is out of control that leads to his kidney failure.I will assure u that is the problem of the kidney failure.

I agree with the above statement, what did your humidity levels look like regularly. Did they drop down to 50% and then do the normal jump to 70-80% when he was misted?

Digital hygrometer does drop to 45 between mistings... the timer is set to every hour 15 seconds. Dripper are going constantly, and he knew how to drink from it. It was just recently he wouldn't eat or drink (that I saw). I was manually misting him directly to force him to drink and soaking in warm water hoping for hydration. Another note is that his last poo was white urates but with no poo except for a small patch of blood at the end

I would increase the length of the mistings but decrease the frequency. I would mist for 2 minutes at least every 3-4 hours.

Have ur vet did any fecal test with ur cham?and what are the result??a blood stool sounds like some type of Intestinal Parasites to me

The vet only did blood work and lifesaving measures including catheter, incubator, sedation for catheter, heart meds, attempted recesutation and hydration. He died within 4 hours of going to the vet.

Yes, Repashy's Calcium Plus is a calcium/d3/multi-vitamin all-in-one supplement that can be dusted at every feeding. I used it daily when my panther was 3 months old up until I started feeding him less as an adult, which I now use maybe 3 times a week. He's going on 2 years soon and looks great. Fluker's cube has very little nutritional benefits as it is used mainly to keep the feeders hydrated. On top of Calcium Plus, I gut-load with bug burger, bug buffet, and cricket crack(alternating once one runs out for variety). To add some additional information, I only dust hard bodied feeders with calcium. The soft ones are left as is, but I'll sometimes dust phoenix and butterworms with Dino-fuel.

Perhaps the sedation for catheter injection or withdrawal of fluids from this cham are putting stress in him that might cause him goes into a extremely shocking stage n eventually took away his life,since the cham was not even in his perfect health condition in the first place to go under these operations procedure,these are just my guessing.

Hey these little guys were only meant to live one year in the wild before the droughts come, thats why the eggs take so long to hatch vs beardies. I say GG to anyone with a 5 year old female or 6 year old male.
