Hi Everyone,
So of you may have seen my thread last week asking advice on a male veiled that had been available. I went to the place to check him out and see whether or not he was right for me and if I was ready after Ernie.
When I got there, it had happened to be the new Reptile Centre that will be opening soon. They have snakes, other lizards, frogs and spiders there which are all well looked after, and beside a few who are stressed from transportation, they are all relatively healthy.
When I enquire about the Veileds they had advertised, I was invited to have a look. What I saw was nothing like the picture posted that I share here on the forum. There were 3 juvenile/sub-adult females, one was shedding and one was bursting to lay eggs and she is extremely emaciated. The other was Waladii (it means "my boy" in Arabic). I know the minute I saw him I had to say something.
I told them that the way their chameleons are looking, they are going to die if vet treatment isn't sought after immediately.
To cut a really long story short.. I am not volunteering at this centre to help with the chameleons (50 more are due to arrive from Yemen next week!).. and offered to foster Waladii and see if there was something I could do to offer him a chance and a little comfort. I knew when I saw him he only had a few days.
I now know I am not quite ready for a new baby of my own, but in the meantime, I can help some others before it becomes too late. This way I can still be around them and care for them.
RIP Waladii... you would have been such a gorgeous little man! xxx
