Im board and that means it’s time to do an upgrade to my vivs! What kind of RO filters is everyone using?

Interested to see what others are using too. We've been toying with idea of grabbing this one https://www.amazon.com/Costway-5-St...35387910&sr=8-19&keywords=ro+filter+with+pump . For the price, it has a pretty decent good:waste ratio without mods beyond what it comes with according to the reviews

I never realized the required their own pumps. But for $100 it would be hard to beat.

I've not really read to much on them over all but, from what I've read increasing the pressure through the membrane reduces the waste water it produces.

What do you mean by waste water? I admittedly know nothing about them, just starting to do my research today...

I use a Bulk Reef RODI, a 75 gallon a day system. You want the water pressure to be around 50-75 psi. If it's lower your efficiency will not be as good. My water pressure was around 35 so I did add on a booster pump. I actually use this system for two purposes, 1 - my reef tank and also my misting systems now. The reef tank has it's own reservoir that is used for the freshwater top off which is located right at the RODI system in the basement. The reservoir (20 gallon white Brute can) for the misting system is on the other end of the house in the basement below once of the enclosures on the first floor. Both reservoir have a float switch in them so when they full it shuts the power off to the booster pump and stops the flow of water from the system. Having it set this way I can not rely on the float switch if they are filling at the same time as one may fill quicker so I have the output teed with a valve on each output and only run one at a time. I can go about 7 days before having to fill the misting system reservoir. I change my filters normally 3 times a year including the DI resin. The RO membrane when the TDS of the water before the DI resin is constantly above 5 ppm. The longevity of the filters and membrane will vary on your water pressure and the TDS of the water coming in from your home's plumbing. I'm on a well so why I needed the booster pump and my TDS after the whole home filter system going in the RODI system is 35.
I do get about 2.5-3 gallons waste to 1 gallon of production water. Some of the higher end systems can get you 1-1.5 waste to production but are very costly (SpectraPure Maxxcap UHE, 100 gallon a day system is about $900).
Some will collect the waste water from their systems and use it for irrigation purposes

So does anyone know if it works well with well water. Have alot a sulfur and small amout of dirt that u cant see with naked eye. We have clay in the ground so some comes up with the water. We use calligan water for drinking.

I am on a well. It's been about 12 years since we moved in and had the water tested but at the time we had a whole house filter system installed. I do remember we had a lot of iron in our water. I've been using the RODI system for at least 9 years, I'd have to look back a pictures to see exactly when I started with the reef tank. As mentioned above you may need a booster pump depending on the water pressure going in.

Min 50 to 60 psi. I have a booster on mi. And a whole water system. But have sulfer in the water so makes it taste nasty so we dont drink it. Shower and clothes is okay.

If you still have sulfur in your water after going through your house filtration system then you don't have the right filtration setup.

I have this with one 5micron carbon filter and one with 10 micron filter and still has a little smell not bad but little. But my wife is so picky too.

We have excellent water pressure and I’d only be using it for my mistking so waste isn’t a huge concern. The cheapest ones seem to be around $100 but I’m a firm believer in you get what you pay for. What could I expect to pay for a good, not great, RO system?

So this is what system I have, it adds the DI Resin as the 4th stage. The 75 gallon per day version is $150. As mentioned earlier I added the booster pump because of low pressure, float switch kit, pressure gauge, and a dual inline TDS meter (how I measure the water quality going in and out of the system.)

Does that service the whole house? If so I'm sorry but thats not going to remove iron or sulfur, you would need something similar to this below.

No i know. Thats why i get water from town and use one of those water machines and get water for my chams. But didnt know if what Brodybreaux25 was talking about would work for my chams water. Not worrying about the whole house. If what he was talking about would work for chams water.

Lurking in this thread because I plan to replace the trips to the store for distilled with RODI water. Someone from Mistking told me via email that they're coming out with their own RO system, so look out!
I should also say, I'm in the market for an RODI unit that could be used for a reef tank sometime down the road if I get the money and courage to do such a thing, but for that I'd need a 5-stage system here in Boston because we use chloramine to treat our water here.
Quick question if anyone knows this. Would the DI be overkill for drinking water for reptiles? From what I understand it's not recommended that humans drink deionized water.
I should also say, I'm in the market for an RODI unit that could be used for a reef tank sometime down the road if I get the money and courage to do such a thing, but for that I'd need a 5-stage system here in Boston because we use chloramine to treat our water here.
