Roaches? Are they worth it?

So Ive been lookin threw these forums and a few others and have seen a few people talking bout roaches.... So how are they? I mean nutrionally, breeding and caring.

I currently buy 1000 crickets every 3 weeks for my collection of herps. Currently i have 1.0 Bearded dragon, 2.2 leopard geckos, and 0.0.2 crested geckos not including my snakes. And I am getting a Veiled Chameleon in a few weeks.

How hard would it be to start a colony to be able to keep up with my lil family? And would it be worth it or should I stick with crickets?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Make that 1000 a month when you get that veiled.

12-15 crickets a day + death rate, I was going through under 1000 a month. 500 was too little. 1000 was a little too much. I only have a veiled.

I was sick of the smell, sick of the chirping, sick of the escapees that hop out of my hands.

Just started my dubia colony this week so I'll be able to make a better comparison in a month or so. But so far it's a dream feeder. Odorless, quiet and kinda fun to watch.

What a time to be out of roaches!!!
Everyone wants them now;).
I'll tell you another benefit...I recently netted between four and five hundred dollars on roach sales in a very short amount of time.
Takes awhile to get those colonies established (longer than you think) but once they're going strong you've not only got food for your own kids, but a nice little sideline to defray costs of this expensive hobby. Hard to do that with crickets!:)

Yes, I would love to get some roaches, but seems like they are in short supply.

They are good healthy food, you can easily breed them in a bedroller, and they are easy as hell to care.

I still use crickets, grasshoppers, zophobas, moth, whatever, but my dubias are becoming my favorites.
