roaming crickets?

I am a newbie (no cham yet), so if this is a stupid question I am sorry.

For those of you who let your crickets/roaches, etc.. roam your chams enclosure....do you just dump them in the bottom and they work their way upwards or do your chams know to go to the bottom of their cage to feed? Do you use a combo of techniques....roaming feeders and using feeder cups for worms, etc..? I will probably be starting off with a young cham (3 months) if that makes a difference at all.

I am just planing my set up so just curious.

when I used to feed my chameleon when he was young I would dump the crickets in the bottom of the cage and they would all climb up the screen sides towards the lights. Some will hide along the though, so I was always careful to count how many Iet go and make sure he would eat them one by one. The reason I say this is cause you really don't want to leave crickets loose in your enclosure at night. They come out at night and have been known to nip a sleeping chameleon. You can always cup feed too and do it in a way so the crickets dont escape. If you search the threads, there are members who have designed a couple of escape proof containers to keep the crickets in. You can also pull off their back legs, which I was not a fan of doing so they don't jump out!

I flick them at high speeds to various strategic locations. They can be surprisingly ninja about grabbing things mid-air.

Hahahahahahahaha!

No, that is not what I meant!!!!!! :p

Im sure they could, but it wouldnt happen very often!

To clarify, the crickets are ninja about grabbing things mid-air.

Meaning, that you can flick them into the cage, and they will often grab onto something and stick, without falling to the ground. ;)

LOL I cant quit laughing, the mental image of someone throwing crickets to their cham, like a dog and a biscuit, is great...
