Ryker's Vet Trip

Andee

Chameleon Enthusiast
So I am so glad I definitely took Ryker in today. I know he's been off for a bit, but our vet fund has been a bit low and mom's job had just started so I wanted to wait a couple weeks. But I was able to get some dog's to walk for regular people so I was comfortable taking him in. Thankfully it wasn't too expensive this trip.

He cost 242 for fluids, a CBC blood panel, some deworming (just in case), some new liquid calcium and some new eye lubrication cause I wanted some stuff immediately on hand and wasn't going to CVS any time soon. But I was also able to get his eyes flushed and talk about him losing weight. We have adjusted his food needs, since he always needs high calorie and until I can get some really fatty feeders to mix in with his bug blend, I am mixing some extra calories in with Carnivore Care, I don't need it for the supplements so she said I should only need like 1 teaspoon or half of what I would normally use. But he needs the extra calories to help him gain weight. What I am really excited about is I have had an issue getting him to drink regularly, and then when she gave him sub-q fluids he got home to a shower after a few minutes in the sun and then switching while I sat out with Neptune, and he was drinking for about an entire 20-30 minutes in the shower, SO HAPPY <3 ugh so worth the 200+ dollars <3 hoping to turn him around. She thinks his wrists and grip issues are just him being weak from malnutrition and thinks though I am giving him plenty of food it's just not high enough calories for him personally. Though I would tag you in this @Rapunzel's Pascal because we recently adjusted Pascal's diet, and though your guy is a great weight just weigh him and be aware of his weight and remember adjusting caloric density is easier than just giving larger volumes! So much love to you two hoping Pascal is still doing great ^^

This all sounds great !!. How did kitty do ? How is Houdini (Aka). Neptune is he still pissed ?

Neptune is permenantly angry... i don't think that will change anytime soon. My cat did well... she became a pancake while being there poor baby. She needs a tooth cleaning and likely at least one tooth extracted (she's 12 years old), and she will likely get the weird abscess thing removed during it.

Oh I get that . I came home today to check on the babies . Frances was pissed why because someone put her cup in her basking place . Hubby and Human child not home . Don't know which did it but woohoo she was pissed . As soon as I took it away she was fine . Bossy little thing .

Thanks for the tag Andee and glad to hear that you got Ryker in. We are definitely watching Pascal close. Guess what happened today? More poop! I have never been so happy for poop in my life! Yeah :)
I am so happy to hear that, is he showing any more movement in his back legs?

I'm glad you were able to go ahead and get Ryker into the vet. With these guys sooner is always better that later. Have you ever thought about pet insurance? It's very affordable and really helps out.

We are likely going to get pet insurance for at least a few of our guys. Like our dog and two cats 100% since one of our cats is diabetic and the other one would do great with regular dental care. And then Dewey because he's getting older, has a tiny bit of arthritis that we are staying on top of but he's also currently my service dog and my little man. I would like to do some of the chameleons and I am not sure if I can put just some towards reptiles and just make it general based? Our little senior kitty is doing really well considering one of her teeth is so loose I think its because I have been using the enzymatic toothpaste so regularly with her. She's back to perfect weight for her which is 7 pounds XD

It might be hard to get coverage on the ones you mentioned. Some want cover pre-exsisting conditions nor check up and senior pets they usually want to give you accidental coverage. I get a multi pet discount on my Reptiles and if you pay by the year another discount. It ends up being $8.00 a month on chameleons to $11.00 a month on my Iguana.

It's good that you got Ryker to the vet! I hope things will improve with his calorie intake.
It's a lot of work with him from the sounds of it.

Frances must have been funny being all pissy!
Yup see she was so mad over the cup . Even her little grabby hands up . . See where the cup is . That's a big No No !!.

We have nationwide we pay 11 for each scaly baby . They had no problem coving Frances . It does not cover yearly checkups , but does cover any meds if needed at yearly checkups covers . Any treatments any time , x-rays , surgeries , fecal , blood work etc.

Does it only cover reptiles like that? With other furred animals of various types (more than just cats and dogs since I have various hamsters etc.) would it be similar in a lump kind of way? and just be more expensive or something?
