Presley is a very healthyl and happy chameleon, he is fine whenever i have to handle him and is very social. I have all the nessicary essintials for his 16x16x30 terrarium witch include (Heat lamp with 60 watt heat bulb, Reptisun 5.0 UVB lightbulb, Dripper, Calcium, Calcium with D3, and herptivite witch is given to him on a monthly scedual, and a combination of real and fake plants. I'm not to sure why he looks sad... maybe he's just relaxed? but about half the time i look at him when he's in his terrarium, he's in there laying resting his chin, and just looks really sad.. is this normal?

Are you certain of that?

-Brad

No, I am not certain of that. Perhaps I should have worded it differently. Typically when we see behavior changes in our chameleons, it usually indicates something is wrong, either healthwise or with the husbandry. I didn't mean to make it so absolute and I apologize for that. I was basing my statement on other threads I have read on this forum regarding things like this.

This one: https://www.chameleonforums.com/personality-19378/ and this one:https://www.chameleonforums.com/could-he-depressed-12241/ were 2 in particular I was reading.

The stance on anthropomorphism for different people varries. Me personally, I believe everything can have feelings, there is no proof that they can not. I may sound paranoid  but I believe that humans do not like the thought of any other species being any better than they are and therefore they tend to forget that they themselves are just another species. Who are they to say what other species can or cannot do? I have seen it multiple times, other animals showing signs of emotions or "anthropomorphism", so that is where I stand.

As I already said, I am not certain. It is entirely possible that they have emotions to a certain extent. I also said that I didn't mean to be so absolute and apologized for it. However, do I believe that they have the same emotions that we as humans have? No, I do not.

That's fine I was not implying anything towards you, just adding on my two cents to the subject.

Understood. I should have made it more clear in my first post that it was my opinion. Though I do agree with what is said in the threads I posted the link to. I do not believe this to be true for all animals. We are specifically talking about chameleons so this is just my view on that subject. I think that this is a subject with a wide range of opinions and beliefs, which is good. If everyone thought the same, what a dull place it would be.

Hey I noticed you're from Toronto! Where did you get your cham? Add me - my brother in law owns a reptile store in midtown Toronto. Come visit :)

I think the natural facial characteristics of chameleons read as sad to us..just by virtue of the way their mouths are built, they seem to be frowning. We associate frowning with sadness. I'm quite sure they can be sad, but I'm equally sure I would not be able to recognize the emotion unless I'd known the chameleon for a long time.
