San Diego Reptile Super Show

Blah, I felt so bad for those animals at that table. They all looked so miserable. I'd never seen a completely black stressed out panther until I saw those guys.

me either my daughter an i were standin there i was showin her the parsons and she asked me what kind of chams the anthers were and the others cause shed never seen suck dark colors of stress...an we raise panthers..

dont the show promoters say in the contract with vendors that animals must be in good health and displayed/kept properly? Surprised that u guys didnt cane the guy for such obvious lack of knowledge or "just dont give a cr@p" way of keeping them.

You are supposed to house them properly and all that, but there's so many definitions of "properly" depending on who you ask.... PetsMart was there (or PetCo, one of them), and I'm sure if you asked them, they'd say they were kept properly, or that they should have been in a glass tank. There were many other animals that were kept in much worse conditions than the Parsons at the show, but someone enforcing this would have a hard time knowing where to even start. I think the Parsons struck a nerve with the chameleon people because of what they were. Some of the vendors with tortoises at the show struck a nerve with the tortoise people for the same reason (when they were piled on top of each other in small bins).

I think it also says 'no wild caught' animals? I could be totally wrong though.... or I am thinking of NARBC shows?

Again, I could be wrong.

This was some good stuff.... This girl was leaning in to look and Mike says 'would you like to hold it' so she gets closer and he made a frowling sound and pushed the cham at her and she jumped back.... She was a really good sport about it and had a good laugh. She really enjoyed holding the cham.

Excellent point. Cham keepers get extra touchy when they see parsonii. They looked good for chameleons at a show. I didn't see them in enclosures though so I can't really say they were stressed out. The price seemed too high for most cham keepers. Had he put them in a really awesome set-up, it might have helped.

There were definitely some WCs there. I think NARBC says no WCs. Don't know about this promoter.

This was the booth Dave Weldon and I had for ChamEO and SBCK.

The white net cage had four of my CB T. cristatus in there. I stacked the other one on top with 4 more from the clutch. Just couldn't help but show everyone my little babies.

That white net cage looks to be about a 12" cube, where did you find it? i would love a couple of those for back up for babies.

Howdy All,

The show was a lot of fun :). It didn't take us long to remember to be careful not to over-use our voices so that we'd still be surviving by Sunday night . We had lots of past, present, and future chameleon keepers asking great questions covering the entire range of husbandry and health topics. We uncovered a number of keepers who live up in the Los Angeles area, many of whom expressed interest in attending the SBCK group meetings. We had several new members at last night's meeting too :).

Elisa did a great job fund-raising for Chameo.org (501c3 non-profit) as well as sharing keeper info that probably saved a number of keepers from going down the wrong path with husbandry techniques.

It was really handy being right across from LLL Reptiles' booth. We could easily point to the Reptisun 5.0 linear tubes stacked-up ready for purchase :).

LOL, I took one of the 18" Zoo Med 5.0's out of a cage kit Mike was selling so I could show people what a UVB light was, and what to look for when shopping. We too were across from the LLL Reptile's booth and I would show a person the UVB lamp and then point to where they could find them in the booth... :)

I went over to the LLL booth to show someone some differences in the lamps and had a line of people asking me questions... too bad some of them were only interested in knowing the price of an item and I couldn't help them with that

Few more photos

I grabbed a few photos while there also. This was before the show opened (no traffic in aisles).

Always good to have good Chameleon people around our booth too! As someone said - some only care about the price of a bulb, and not what the breeder is telling them to get. Fortunately, you guys push the right stuff at the show, and it always helps us out a great deal too!

Good pictures - why is our booth off in the distance in every shot? Come on Tyler! LOL.

Any of you up in the inland empire or Riverside - our new store will open in October in Menifee right off the 215 and Newport. See ya at the LA show soon!

There's a good chance that the booth you would have had was the one Dave and I were at.

No, I was supposed to be right beside Tiki Tiki. I couldn't make it (I decided at the 11th hour to stay home just in case the melleri eggs hatched beause you know they totally would if I was not there) so Tiki took my booth.

Julie, I think you could have done OK at the show.

Meh, probably as good as I normally do there, I guess.
