So. I'm trying to set up a laying bin... I bought washed play sand. And I also bought a bonsai tree thing. I was hoping to mix the soil and sand together and stick the plant inside... but I don't know how the tree will do? I really wanted to do sand with the soil and a tree... just worried about the plant

My combo is equal parts : topsoil, sand, coconut fiber

Remember they tunnel, and they will dig up that tree. You have to get the soil to the point where its easy to dig in, and the tunnel wont collapse, else she will just spend more time digging another tunnel.

I do 4 to 1 ratio. 4 parts Moss 1 parts sand. And then I usually stick a plant in the corner also a lot of water so you can cut a hole with your hand. You'll get a lot of advice some people do it different than others.

The tree roots would be more of a concern to me. She could get entangled, stuck, or trapped within them. And you are going to end up digging up the tree yourself, to get any eggs out of the soil. I would find a better spot for your tree. IMHO
